What you'll do:

This position's main responsibility is to provide general library functions at the customer service desk. The incumbent provides services in a variety of other areas in the library. Incumbents in this position are part-time support staff who are instrumental in the day-to-day operations of the Library, and they handle a wide variety of support staff functions including customer service, technical services, and computer services.

Essential Job Functions

Greets and offers assistance to library customers in person and via telephone, including identifying and locating books and other publications.Issues library cards using the library's computer system.Checks materials in and out using laser scanners, keyboards and receipt printers.Informs patrons about general library policies and about circulation procedures.Receives and records payments for fines, printers, and book sales.Shelves books, magazines, DVD's and other materials.Performs basic catalog data entry.Logs incoming magazines.Processes new books for the shelf with covers, pockets, labels.Repairs books and DVD's.Assists with design and production of forms and brochures.Contributes to library newsletter and webpage.Notifies patrons of overdue materials (via telephone, written and /or electronic notices.Monitors office supplies.Keeps statistics.Introduces, assists, and trains customers in general use of library computer resources.Monitors computer stations and offer assistance to library customers.Interpret requests from customers to initially determine requirements.Utilizes automated library systems and other library equipment.Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with public and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.Handles patron requests and complaints in person or by phone.Assists customers with accessing information and databases and with saving, printing, and attaching files in various formats.Responds to inquiries from customers relating to computer operation; performs basic troubleshooting routines on public computers, laptops and other devices including resolution of printing problems, loose connections, and rebooting systems as required; and reports the need for more extensive maintenance or repair.Performs other related duties as required/assigned.Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High School diploma or GED, with an Associate's degree preferred.One (1) year of related work experience.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESKnowledge of department practices and policies.Skill in the use small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.Skill in using computers for data entry.Skill in using computers for word processing and accounting purposes.Skill in interpersonal communication.Skill in customer service.Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions.Ability to sort and file alphabetically and numerically.Ability to operate basic library equipment.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, officials, and member of the public.Ability to interact with a diverse group of individuals and strong communication skills.Ability to organize and communicate effectively.Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

Work environment is typically performed in a safe and secure work environment that may periodically have unpredicted requirements or demands.The work is light work which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: climbing, crouching, manual dexterity, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, talking, visual acuity, and walking.

This position is deemed a safety sensitive position in accordance with Florida State Statute Chapter 112.0455 Drug Free Workplace Act and is subject to pre-employment drug screening.
