Junior Level II Grant Writer, Researcher and Planner Position Description

Reports to (title): Agriculture Manager

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

In performance of their respective tasks and duties all employees of Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina are expected to conform to the following:

POSITION PURPOSE This person will report to the Department's Interim Director and conduct research regarding grant requirements and the needs of the Lumbee farmers and tribal members regarding managing farms and tribal lands through the correct and indigenous method of burning tree undergrowth. This person will work full-time researching the evaluation criteria of the grant application and securing partnerships that will be included in the grant.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS, & RESPONSIBILITIES

Collecting data and research as in pertains to the grant

Creating partnerships with local and state organizations as related

Communicate and recruit Lumbee landowners to participate in the grant

Present to Tribal Administration and Council on reporting updates

Participate in Department staff meeting

Attend professional development opportunities helpful to the grant process

Keeping proper documentation and records

Work with Senior Grant Writers to complete and finalize grant

MINIMUM MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:

Proven documentation of writing grants, conducting research and partnering with local and state agencies. Good communication skills along with computer skills including MS word and Excel. A work history of at least 5 years.

Education:

Education should include a minimum graduation from a 4-year institution in the field of biology, agriculture or English

Mandatory Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Qualifications:

Qualified candidates must be: able to confront and solve basic practical issues; able to read and understand assessments;

Knowledgeable in regulations of the local, state and federal government;

Able to understand legal terminology and speak effectively in front of a group or individuals.

Good communication skills, writing skills, computer skills, organizational skills, and the ability to relate to diverse populations will be required.

Additionally, qualified candidates must have a valid NC driver’s license and transportation, be willing to work evenings, and travel throughout the service area of Robeson, Hoke, Scotland, and Cumberland Counties.

Work environment:

Physical demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the primary functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to frequently stand, walk, sit, bend, twist, talk, hear and perform repetitive motions. There may be prolonged periods of sitting, keyboarding, reading, as well as driving or riding in transport vehicles. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include reading, distance, computer, and color vision. Talking and hearing are essential to communicate with clients, vendors, and staff.

Mental demands:

There are a number of deadlines associated with this position. The employee must be able to handle frequent interruptions and must also multi-task and interact with a wider variety of people on various and, at times, complicated issues.

The Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina has implemented an Indian Preference in Employment Policy. Pursuant to this Policy, applicants who possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities required by this position, and who are members of the Lumbee Tribe will be given primary preference for hiring and employment after providing proof of tribal membership. Indian preference is integrated into the interview and scoring process for candidates for job positions.
