The Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) departmentin The Grainger College of Engineering seeks applicants for an Assistant Director of Communications and Marketing position. This position is responsible for managing, creating, implementing and measuring strategic marketing and communications plans for the CEE department. This position manages and produces marketing activities and initiatives for CEE; creating and managing marketing campaigns and content; managing marketing channels; managing and conducting market research; regularly presenting performance data reports to inform strategic direction; and overseeing quality assurance for marketing materials.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Marketing & Marketing Management

• Lead a communications program that supports department initiatives and informs our external and internal audiences, working with and directing the work of the department's communication personnelOversee department marketing campaigns and projects and manage their execution within deadlines and budgets. Oversee project progress, troubleshoot issues and proactively manage key stakeholder relationships.• Create and maintain communications and fundraising materials, the CEE magazine, website, social media, e-newsletter, electronic information screens, video and media relations program, and other marketing material.

• Develop marketing material for recruitment of graduate and undergraduate students.

Create timely and relevant content, and oversee department/unit mass marketing channels, including websites, intranet, emails, e-newsletters, social media platforms, print publications, digital advertising and promotional materials.Regularly write and create content to promote CEE programs and achieve its goals, as well as sourcing related campus wide content for department channels.Propose, implement and manage new marketing strategies to positively impact CEE goalsInitiate, organize and lead efforts to ensure seamless coordination and alignment of CEE marketing initiatives.Actively monitor marketing industry trends, best practices and emerging technologies. Present to CEE leadership, staff and academic leaders on insights and recommendations and collaboratively implement those to enhance marketing strategies and tactics.Manage quality assurance on marketing materials produced for CEE.Lead the ideation, coordination and execution of various CEE marketing campaigns, particularly campaigns centered around recruitment, affinity, reputation and advancement.Strategy and Planning

Serve as a senior marketing strategic partner/liaison to foster strong relationships between CEE and the College Office of Marketing and Communications (OMC), and lead the communication, collaboration, and regular reporting on marketing activity and performance metrics.Manage annual marketing planning and priority setting for CEE in alignment with Grainger Engineering and University of Illinois brand and marketing strategies and guidelines.Tracking and Reporting

Identify, develop and manage success metrics, organize channel performance data, and provide monthly reports on all media channels (including websites, emails, social and paid media platforms) to the CEE department.Manage data dashboards for CEE.Lead and manage marketing campaigns and activities to ensure activity correlation to impact through appropriate digital tracking and regular reporting.Other

Support CEE advancement efforts.Assume additional duties related to communications to further the mission of CEE.If needed, hire, train and supervise student interns to assist with communications priorities as required.Other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in marketing, business administration, communications, public relations, or a closely related field.Three (3) years (36 months) of professional work experience in marketing, public relations, communications, brand management, or a related professional area.Demonstrated experience in writing.Demonstrated experience in marketing via digital and print and media.Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree (s) in marketing, journalisms, science communicationFive or more years of related professional marketing experience.Experience with the development and implementation of marketing and promotional materialsExperience with organizing, interpreting and reporting performance analytics data for digital media platforms.Experience working on a marketing communications team in a matrix organizationExperience in graphics designExperience with science, technology and engineering science writingExperience with public relations and reputation enhancement effortsKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Mastery of grammar, punctuation and spelling; a high degree of attention to detail; and error-free, clear, compelling language is expected. A working knowledge of the AP Style Guide is expected.Must be detail-oriented, have excellent organizational skills, strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work independently and exercise good judgment.Ability to analyze and derive insight from data to inform decisions.

APPOINTMENT INFORMATION

This is a full-time Civil Service

Marketing Associate

position appointed on a 12-month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. The minimum salary is $65,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications. Employees hired into this position will be expected to work onsite on a full-time basis. Work authorization is not available for this position.
