The Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for articulating and promoting Urban's institutional identity to all constituents to raise visibility and communicate the identity and priorities of Urban School. The person in this position spearheads a comprehensive strategic marketing effort for the school, including oversight of its online presence, publications and collateral, internal and external communications, media relations and publicity, and other special projects. The Director of Marketing Communication is the "final set of eyes" on all external communications to ensure their consistency and accuracy.

The Director supervises the Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications, serves as a member of Urban's administrative team, and reports directly to the Head of School.

Our Ideal Candidate:Bachelor's degree in a related field required. Master's degree preferred.5+ years' experience in marketing and communications preferred. Experience in a school setting a plus.Exceptional verbal/written communication and graphic design skills; obsessed with accuracy, quality, and deadlines.Preferred experience with School marketing, positioning, and adherence to brand guidelines.Experience managing the content and accuracy of external communications through both digital and print mediums, including the Urban website, social media, and weekly newsletters.Experience with Media Relations and Crisis Communications.Excellent organization, research, and detail-orientation skills.How You Will Spend Your Day:

Online Presence and Social Media Management:

Manage content, design, editing, and planning of the school website.Create and distribute weekly news bulletin and other timely messages and announcements.Manage the master calendar on the website in conjunction with Operations.Work closely with staff to ensure the integrity of online interactions, including admissions, enrollment, as well as various forms and surveys.Manage all relevant social media platforms on behalf of Urban.Ensure appropriate website and social media training and content for other staff members including Special Events, Alumni Relations, Admissions, and Athletics.Publications and Collateral:

Ensure the accuracy and consistency of external communications.Oversee major school publications including This Week at Urban, the school's weekly online community news bulletin.Partner with various departments to design reports, invitations and other collateral, as needed.Oversee and negotiate cost-effective production, mailing and bid processes with graphic designers, photographers and printers.Update annual Student-Family Handbook in conjunction with multiple departments and assist Human Resources in designing and producing the Employee Handbook as needed.Create and produce Style Guide and develop procedures to ensure archiving and continuity of images and messages; educate employees on new communications systems and policies.Responsible for consistency and upkeep of Urban's stationery system, including print and electronic formats.Ensure appropriate use of brand identity and core messaging in all materials and publications.Enrollment / Admission Marketing:

Work in conjunction with the Admissions Department to conceive, write and produce admissions materials, both online and print.Oversee annual post-admission surveys, including survey design and analyzing survey results, and using the results to hone messages across all communications vehicles.Monitor San Francisco and Bay Area demographics and assist Admissions and the Head of School in analyzing their impact on enrollment.Work with Admissions to ensure a comfortable transition for incoming parents/guardians in using Urban's online portal and other online platforms.Media Relations, Publicity and Crisis Communications:

Effectively articulate Urban's values, mission and vision to external community.Create external communications and media relations plan, including press releases, feature articles, opinion/editorials and event coverage.Develop story angles and pitch ideas to print and broadcast media when appropriate.Develop talking points and prepare spokespersons to handle interviews.Manage visits of local and national media when on campus.Prepare and continually update crisis communications plans in conjunction with the Safety Committee, Head of School and other relevant personnel.Other:

Work in partnership with the Development Office to support and serve as liaison with the Co-Presidents and other members of the Parent/Guardian Association (PGA Board).Manage photography and video for use online and in publications; ensure maintenance of image archive drive.Manage archive of student and faculty work in conjunction with the Director of Educational Technology.Develop and produce alternative forms of communication such as videos.Work in conjunction with the Athletics Department to ensure brand consistency of uniforms, collateral and other sports-related items.Serve as a member of the school's Safety Committee.Provide oversight and brand consistency of school signage, donor walls, and other physical elements on the campus.
