About the Role

As a Senior Product Designer at SmartThings, you'll partner with Product and Engineering teams in multiple areas of our business to shape the direction of critical user experiences. In some areas, you will directly mold the user experience for critical business partners, building and iterating toward a best-in-class interface to drive our expanding, industry-leading ecosystem. In other areas, you will partner closely with product and engineering teams to build and test high-fidelity prototypes, shaping the future of innovative new smart home services and solutions. In all cases, you will bring your design expertise, passion for user experience, partnership, and intellectual curiosity to guide SmartThings forward alongside your teammates.

Key Responsibilities

This position is a hybrid role, based onsite 3 days a week at our office in Minneapolis, MN.User-Centric Design: Demonstrate commitment to improving customer experience by leading the design of user-centric interfaces, with an emphasis on the needs of SmartThings' partners and enterprise customersPrototype Creation & Iteration: Develop high-fidelity mockups and prototypes to represent product vision and guide the development of new services and experiences. Use these to drive user testing as needed, and iterate based on feedback and findingsCross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product managers, engineers, program managers, and stakeholders, building trust across all parties while ensuring design feasibility, alignment with business objectives and product requirements, and meeting delivery timelines Continually promote true teamwork and partnership across functions in the way you work, seeking to understand perspectives and learn from failures togetherResearch and Analysis: Conduct user research, usability testing, and competitive analysis to inform design decisions and improve user experiencesData-Driven Development: Partner with product and data team members to leverage qualitative and quantitative to deliver impact through exceptional user experience, including user surveys, click data, and user journey analysisDesign Systems: Contribute to and maintain a consistent design system in partnership with brand design and engineering, ensuring cohesive experiences across products and platforms that align with global Samsung brand guidelines and integrate with engineering systemsInnovation: Stay up-to-date with the latest design trends, tools, and technologies, and apply this knowledge to enhance our productsDesign Leadership: Share examples, insights, and industry knowledge with the broader SmartThings team to drive understanding of user experience concepts across the teamSkills, Knowledge and Expertise

What You Bring On Day One (Required Qualifications)

5+ years of experience in product design, with a strong portfolio showcasing past work on user-centric designs and/or mockups for B2B or complex B2C productsBachelor's degreeExperience with project management tools (e.g., Jira), partnering with cross-functional teams, and balancing multiple projects and stakeholdersProficiency in design tools (Figma preferred) and prototyping tools like InVisionStrong understanding of UX principles, user research, usability testing, and other data-driven design methodologiesExcellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate design decisions and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teamsStrong intellectual curiosity, empathy, and problem-solving skills, and the ability to think critically and creatively to solve problemsSmartThings Benefits

Compensation for this role for a candidate based in Minneapolis is expected to be between $99,833 and $149,750. Additionally, this role is eligible for a 20% annual target bonus potential, depending on company and individual performance.
