Overview

The Strategic Communications Manager at Rhode Island Energy is an experienced communications and marketing professional responsible for developing and distributing marketing and communications materials specifically targeted for Rhode Island Energy customers. The position will assist in developing and executing upon content marketing, social media, digital communications, and marketing strategies to meet customer needs and drive customer satisfaction. The position will maintain appropriate systems and communication channels, including email, social media, and web platforms, and will develop actionable reporting on the performance of communication efforts. This position will proactively engage with internal stakeholders to manage the timing, content, and coordination of multiple messages and content updates from internal and external groups. #RIE

Responsibilities

Update and maintain annual external communications and marketing strategies and influencing plans for RIE

Gain consensus of key stakeholders on recommended strategies.

Lead, develop and work with additional communications partners (digital communications specialist, designers, etc.)

to deliver innovative, high-quality internal and external digital and print communications products.

Serve in a consultative role to internal stakeholders; assist in developing targeted communication programs and tactics to meet communication objectives.

Drive targeted external communication programs to address specific business needs and meet specified objectives.

Maintain communication systems and channels, including email and social media dissemination platforms, the Rhode Island Energy blog and content website, Sharepoint, Office 365 and others as directed.

Generate reports to gauge the effectiveness of communications and then develop action plans to continuously improve and innovate our marketing and communications.

Serve as a critical checkpoint for process development, improvement, and analysis, as well as for technological

enhancements, impacting Rhode Island Energy customers.

Provide logistic and messaging support for customer events, trade shows, and meetings.

Provide consistent brand voice and tone across all mediums.

Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.

Work to promote a constructive culture and a safe work environment within Rhode Island Energy.

Assess situations quickly and propose clear, appropriate responses to emerging customer issues.

Provide leadership for customer crisis communications, including storm response.

Participate in on-call roster for Rhode Island Energy media relations, including provision of the appropriate training.

Ensure the company protects and advances its reputation in a coordinated and consistent manner.

Prepare presentations and materials to support company leaders and representatives at publicity events.

Produce consistent, high-quality communications results that support RIE objectives, satisfy client expectations, and are consistent with PPL's values.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, public relations or related field.

At least 7 to 10 years of experience in a communications/marketing function with a corporation or public relations agency.

Strong project management skills, ability to cope with ambiguity and experience managing multiple priorities. Proven ability to work collaboratively with clients, vendors and external agencies and vendors.

Working knowledge of current energy issues, especially as they pertain to regulated utility operations and the Rhode Island market.

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced proficiency in personal computing skills, including web and social media, and Microsoft Office applications

Experience in electric and/or gas utility communications

Remote Work

The company reserves the right to determine if this position will be assigned to work on-site, remotely, or a combination of both. Assigned work location may change. In the case of remote work, physical presence in the office/on-site may be required to engage in face-to-face interaction and coordination of work among direct reports and co-workers.
