Job Description

This position provides graphic design services and commercial printing expertise for the Office of Highway Safety Planning to assist with statewide traffic safety campaigns, programs, and issues. The OHSP’s mission is to save lives and reduce injuries on Michigan roads through leadership, innovation, facilitation, and program support in partnership with other public and private organizations. This position will be responsible for designing a variety of flyers and brochures, multipage publications, logos, large-format banners, and other graphic design pieces to support effective traffic safety messages. This position also oversees the production of printed, and digital when needed, traffic safety materials, including routing to subject matter experts and writers for updates, obtaining print quotes, filling out print orders, and monitoring when materials arrive at the warehouse. In addition, this position will utilize the Creative Cloud for all design work, will work under tight deadline constraints from time to time, and must be able to determine work priorities and work efficiently. OHSP produces on a regular basis professional-level flyers, brochures, posters, annual reports, banners, and conference materials. This position is required to perform all duties in a bias free manner.

The Michigan State Police (MSP) is a full-service policing agency with statewide jurisdiction, providing over 60 different services either directly to Michigan residents or in support of other law enforcement agencies. The MSP personnel most visible to the public are the uniform troopers whose primary responsibilities include traffic enforcement, crime prevention and investigation, and community engagement and service.

Required Education and Experience

Education

Two years of college (60 semester or 90 term credits) with course work in art, art education, or graphic art design.

Experience

Four years of experience in commercial art or graphic presentation equivalent to a Graphic Arts Designer, including one year equivalent to a Graphic Arts Designer E11.

Alternate Education and Experience

Two years of commercial art or graphic presentation experience may be substituted for the education requirement.

This position requires passing a pre-employment screening, including passing a drug screen, criminal history background check, and a fingerprint check by the Michigan State Police.

Paid Parental Leave:Eligible employees can take12 weeks of paid leaveimmediately after a birth or adoption to allow needed time together at home with a new child.

Paid Holidays:Eligible employees receive 13 or 14 paid holidays each year including New Year’s Eve and Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, Election Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving Friday, Christmas Eve and Day.
