POSITION OPEN UNTIL FILLED
GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Director of Marketing and Public Relations will lead and engage in the development and implementation of the College's marketing strategies, manage the College's brand identity, maintain relationships with the community and local media, and serve as the communications liaison for the College. This position is responsible for leading, supporting, and coordinating the implementation of internal and external strategic marketing and public relations to promote the college, its credit and noncredit programs, and the services it provides. The Director of Marketing and Public Relations will work closely with all entities of the College to create comprehensive, proactive public relation strategies and marketing plans for the College. Additionally, this position oversees and assists in the development of press releases, articles, marketing materials, content management of the website and other written communications. This position receives general direction from the Vice President of Strategic Planning & Enrollment and exercises supervision over professional and support staff.
NOTE: This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.
SELECTION CRITERIA:

Knowledge of:
  1. Design, creation, and execution of marketing, communications, public relations, and media relations activities. 2. Hiring, training, developing, supervising, and evaluating personnel within the field of marketing, design, and communications. 3. Prioritizing projects, providing direction, and leading a creative team of designers and writers. 4. Developing strategies and implementing tactics across a wide variety of media to create distinguished positioning and align with the college's strategic plan, furthering the college's message. 5. Principles and strategies in higher education marketing. 6. Web and social media design and desirable content. 7. Media buying and implementation of marketing campaigns through various media, including television, outdoor, radio, social media, and digital. 8. Developing and managing budgets. 9. Associated Press and MLA style of writing, proofing, and editing. 10. Media relations such as deadlines, successful communications, and production design. 11. Institutional policies and procedures as well as the regulatory environment within which they operate. 12. Principles and practices of public relations and communications. 13. Strong creative, strategic, analytical, and organizational skills. 14. Researching and defining community opinions and trends.
Skills in:
  1. Creative, strategic, organizational, and personal communications. 16. Photography, videography, editing & proofing, scriptwriting for videos & commercials. 17. Developing, coordinating, and executing press conferences, media interviews, and assisting media. 18. Coordinating and collaborating with outsourced resources to manage marketing and public relations goals, strategies, and objectives.
Ability to:
  1. Plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive strategic marketing plan. 20. Maintain positive, effective, cooperative, and professional relationships with team members internally and externally. 21. Plan, schedule, and execute regular media exposure for the College and President. 22. Plan, organize, conduct, and evaluate special events such as but not limited to press conferences or campus recruiting. 23. Writing press releases, articles, announcements, profiles, and stories for outreach and advertising purposes. 24. Advise on web page design and management of desirable content. 25. Investigate and analyze information and draw conclusions. 26. Perform complex tasks and prioritize multiple projects. 27. Communicate college message clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. 28. Respond to media inquiries in an efficient and professional manner.
WORKING CONDITIONS:

Sedentary-Desk work; occasional field trips e.g. for college or program activities. Minimal Hazard/Exposure-Standard office setting. At least minimal environmental controls are in place to assure health and comfort.

QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in marketing, journalism, communications, public relations or related field.
Experience: At least three years of work experience in marketing and/or public relations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in marketing, journalism, communications, public relations or related field. Professional accreditation preferred.
