Position: Director of PR and Communications
Department: Marketing
Reports To: Chief Marketing Officer
FLSA: Exempt

The Director of PR & Communications will lead all strategic communications for both internal and external audiences at Keesler Federal by developing, managing, and executing communication strategies and PR plans that differentiate and strengthen our leadership position within our markets. The Director's responsibilities will extend to overseeing integrated communications initiatives and activities that elevate the credit union's reputation and brand in addition to fostering positive engagement and perceptions amongst members, community partners and employees.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directs, develops and motivates the PR and Communications team including senior content creators and PR associates. Responsible for scheduling, assigning and directing work within the department. Conducts annual performance evaluations and monthly coaching sessions with the advertising team. Collaborates with entire marketing team to bring cohesiveness to marketing projects.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Strategic Communications
  • Oversee the development and execution of a multi-year communications strategy supporting the long-terms goals of Keesler Federal.
  • Serving as a strategic communications advisor and craft communication strategies to share the brand's long-term vision and annual plans to drive business growth. The Director will collaborate with internal stakeholders on brand, product and community development communications.
  • Develop and evolve a message architecture, stories and pro-active narratives to support messaging and talking points which differentiate KFCU in the marketplace.
  • Develop and Crisis Communication Strategy and lead crisis communications planning, response and post-event management
External Communication
  • Media relations - oversee reputation management, proactive storytelling, thought leadership positioning, press releases and media inquiries. Build and manage a media contact list.
  • Collaborate with digital marketing and social teams to manage and monitor online reputation.
  • Manage executive media profiles and bios. Work with CEO and C-Suite to develop positive media stories and placements for Senior Leadership.
  • Manage awards submissions, conferences and thought leadership events
  • Oversee annual meeting and annual report
Internal Communications
  • Manage employee intranet and news channels
  • Oversee town halls and employee events
  • Change management - develop strategies, secure stakeholder buy-in, and manage communications for significant change initiatives
  • Responsible for compliance with all Federal regulations including Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC)

Education:

Equivalent to a college degree (BS or BA in a relevant field).

Experience and Other Requirements:
  • 8-10 years experience in PR, media relations, corporate communications and/or public affairs
  • Proven track record of effective leadership
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and team management skills; including the tact and diplomacy necessary to deal with all levels of staff and the public
  • Ability to build, lead, and inspire a high-performing, diverse team
  • Ability to anticipate issues, respond to crises, and control the narrative
  • Experience in change management and driving enterprise agendas.
  • Strategic thinking and ability to define and execute marketing and communications strategies.
  • Experience in managing external stakeholders and building the company's reputation.
  • Positive attitude, humble, open-minded, adaptable and comfortable working in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment.
Personal Skills:
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft applications, including Excel, Word, Teams, Sharepoint, project management and workflow management tools
  • Strong public speaking abilities and experienced in creating compelling Powerpoint presentations and stories
  • Ability to simplify complex information and articulate with concise and compelling written and verbal communications.
  • Digitally fluent, comfortable with social media, online channels and communications
Interpersonal Skills:
  • A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive contact with others and is usually of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating, influencing or training others. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others.
