Description

This position plays a critical role in communicating unified and strategic messages to support the mission and vision of HSSA and works closely with the Director of Marketing and Communications, Marketing and Social Media Coordinator, Chief Development Officer, and contracted marketing and communication professionals. This position helps implement HSSA's marketing and communications plan by developing and managing creative projects and production schedules, serving as the team's primary graphic designer, photography, and video editor, managing the mass email communication program, and ensuring the HSSA brand creative and voice is consistent across all channels. This position also ensures HSSA's website content is up-to-date and provides copywriting, editing, media outreach, and social media content creation as needed. The incumbent must be comfortable working with animals, and this is a primarily on-site position, with weekend and evening work required as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the Director of Marketing and Communications with input on and implementation support of the annual Marketing, Communications, and Public Relations Plan.
  • Serve as the Marketing and Communication team's lead art director and graphic designer, producing and directing creative content and support materials to meet HSSA's marketing and communication goals.
  • Manage creative campaign production schedules for HSSA marketing and communication initiatives, ensuring deadlines, quality expectations, and campaign metrics are met.
  • Implement HSSA's mass email campaigns, including tracking this tactic's outreach efficacy and ensuring engagements are accurately recorded in HSSA's CRM.
  • Produce or manage the production of all organization print and electronic materials such as letterhead, brochures, etc.
  • Track and report on key metrics such as sales, audience engagement, impressions, reach, referrals, and conversions, and modify future campaign creative based on this data.
  • Maintain and update HSSA website, including tracking and reporting on key metrics.
  • Coordinate with outside vendors as needed to meet HSSA marketing and communications goals.
  • Provide support with copywriting, editing, media outreach, and social media content creation.
  • Provide event support as needed, including art directing, managing and editing event photography, videography, and social media stories.
  • Interface and cooperate with other HSSA departments to support the annual Marketing, Communications, and Public Relations Plan.
  • Perform customer service to the standards set forth in the HSSA employee manual.
  • May drive company vehicle in performance of company business when needed.
  • Maintain professional and positive public appearance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Project-management experience, including success at managing production schedules for marketing and communication deliverables.
  • Experience in graphic design, logo design, flyer design, web graphics creation, and general branding.
  • Skilled in Adobe products such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
  • Ability to coordinate with outside vendors to achieve strategic marketing and communication plan goals.
  • Skills in mass email creation, segmentation, and efficacy evaluation.
  • Exceptional communication skills in written and oral English, with additional Spanish language proficiency preferred.
  • Ability to adhere to deadlines, balance multiple priority projects, and adhere to established goals.
  • Strong creative, strategic, analytical, organizational, and personal sales skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and communicate well with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of office practices and procedures, including experience with word processing, Excel and database management, and budgetary principles and practices.
  • Self-directed and excited by improvement and growth.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed at an animal shelter in an office space, kennel areas, and HSSA's off-site locations. Potential exposure to zoonotic diseases, dangerous and fractious animals, bites and scratches. Potential exposure of infectious diseases to owned animals. Able to lift up to 50 lbs, long periods of standing, bending, working outdoors in differing climates and intermittent exposure to high noise levels. Able to handle all sizes and activity levels of animals.

Qualifications/Educational Background:

  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design, marketing, communication, or other related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in marketing, communications, public relations, or fundraising with demonstrated success. Must provide portfolio with application.
  • Five years of graphic design and photo editing software experience, such as InDesign, PhotoShop, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, etc.
  • Possession of a valid Arizona driver's license and driving record acceptable to HSSA insurance carrier.

Compensation & Benefits

Hiring Range: $46,500 - $56,000 Comprehensive benefit package including employer contributions to retirement plan (401K or Roth); medical, dental, vision & life insurance, access to voluntary supplemental, short- & long- term disability insurance; discounts on adoptions & vaccinations; paid time off for vacation, illness and holidays; & access to a fully company-paid EAP.

The Humane Society of Southern Arizona (HSSA), founded in 1944, is a private, independent, non-profit 501(c)(3) animal welfare organization with the mission of acting with compassion and responsible stewardship through innovative programs that serve pets and the people who love them. HSSA is the largest charitable animal welfare and protection agency in Southern Arizona with 100+ employees and 1300 volunteers. In 2018, HSSA moved into a new state-of the-art animal shelter and spay/neuter clinic.
