Position Summary

The Communications Manager will launch, direct, and maintain communications on all platforms for SUIN to draft, test, and deploy aligned messaging, train coalition members, and boost engagement and participation with the public and with coalition groups. This role includes project management, writing, running meetings, leading training opportunities, vendor management, and print/digital strategy coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the lead for a nonprofit Indiana Communicators meeting, consisting of coalition members that agree to be a part of the aligned messaging network and meet regularly
  • Follow and adopt the principles and frameworks in the Indiana Narrative Project, and drafting core messaging using that framework
  • Ensure that messages are tailored to various issues and campaigns, and that they resonate with target audiences
  • Craft press releases, talking points, and other communication materials as needed
  • Coordinate digital strategies to enhance online presence
  • Build and maintain relationships with key network members and community stakeholders, including media, partners, and community groups
  • Provide training on message development and digital strategy for network members and oversee the development of communication skills within the network
  • Provide rapid response guidance to emerging issues in collaboration with comms table members
  • Set goals and metrics for communications strategies
  • Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of communication initiatives and make data-driven adjustments

Qualifications

  • Exceptional writing and verbal communication skills, including experience crafting persuasive calls to action and messages for a wide range of target audiences
  • Proven experience in communications, public relations, or a related field, ideally within a political, legislative, or advocacy setting
  • Experience in earned media, working with reporters, and generating press
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing diverse, remote groups with differing missions
  • Proficient in digital communication platforms and social media
  • Strategic thinker with excellent problem-solving skills
  • Commitment to Stand Up Indianas mission and values, with a focus on social, racial, and economic justice

Compensation

We offer a competitive compensation package with a starting salary range of $55,000 annually, depending on experience. This position is mostly remote and living in Indiana is preferred.
