The School Marketing Manager (SMM) is a full-time, exempt position responsible for supporting the creation and execution of Boston Ballet School's (BBS) marketing campaigns to meet enrollment and revenue goals. Campaigns include retention and acquisition activities across all media channels to promote the School's core programs and special initiatives. BBS serves over 5,000 students from toddler to adult in several Boston area locations and generates ~ $8MM annually.
The SMM reports directly to the Director of Education Administration, in a hybrid environment, and supervises one direct report, the School Marketing Specialist. The SMM also works in close consultation with BBS Artistic Leadership on creative direction and approvals, Boston Ballet's Marketing team to develop strategies, facilitate execution, and ensure brand guidelines are followed as well as with the School's Senior Student Services Manager to align campaigns with enrollment and revenue trends.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Campaign Development and Execution
Supports the development of highly strategic campaigns that consider enrollment and revenue goals, budgets, as well as industry data and trends
Stewards the creation of campaign components through all stages including project management assignments, providing/collecting edits and obtaining final approvals
Maintains complex and high volume communication and campaign calendars to ensure
content is deployed to a wide range of audiences as needed and on schedule
Works closely with BB Marketing team

  • Designs and creates digital and print collateral
  • Supervises creation and edits all website content working in consultation with BB Web Manager and aligned with BB best practices.
  • Cultivates and manages a digital content strategy and posting of content on social media channels to support campaign awareness and enrollment goals in consultation with Sr. Social Media Coordinator

Collaborates with external Media Buyers and Digital Consultants by communicating regularly on campaign progress against goals

Attends key BB Marketing and all BBS team meetings

  • Works across departments to coordinate cross-promotion of events and initiatives
  • Supervises and provides day-to-day management of School Marketing Specialist, ensuring the position works in synthesis with School teams to achieve customer service and experience goals
  • Consults with BBS Associate Director on BBS creative for artistic direction and to achieve timely and efficient approvals
Analysis & Reporting

Consults with internal colleagues to track and report campaign results to inform data-driven recommendations to optimize campaign strategies and tactics

Through consultation with BB Marketing team, ensures consistent and systemic use of recommended tools and best practices

School Events and Administrative Support: Supports and attends key BBS initiatives such as Open Houses, Spring Showcase, Next Generation; other job-related assignments as required.

Requirements

The ideal candidate is a self-starter who is able to work both independently and as part of a team and must possess excellent project management, written and verbal communication skills. They must have a strong understanding of best practices in retention and acquisition campaign development with knowledge of E-commerce, digital, print and out of home marketing channels. They should demonstrate exceptional customer service skills and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across departments.

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing/communications/journalism/education/business administration, plus a minimum of five years' experience in a related position
  • Proven track record of strong organizational and project management skills in a fast-paced environment, while driving towards deadlines
  • Ability to "manage up", and guide Directors toward effective strategic decision-making
  • Strong relationship building skills
  • Familiarity with communicating and interacting with people with disabilities
  • Flexibility, positive attitude, and strong work ethic
  • Excellent computer/technology skills - Microsoft Office, Wordfly or large-scale email delivery system, Tessitura, and CMSs a plus; and strong understanding of digital media and IT
  • Ability to travel to other studio locations as needed
  • Knowledge of dance education, ballet and/or performing arts a plus but not required
  • Fluent Spanish Speaker a plus but not required
