POSITION:
The Communications & PR Manager takes the lead in developing and executing earned media and PR campaigns, ensuring alignment with Solitude's strategic goals and objectives. This role acts as the first point of contact for media inquiries, while proactively coordinating media and FAM visits. This role co-manages Solitude's ambassador, athlete, and photographer programs. The Communications & PR Manager also coordinates with the marketing team to evolve the brand voice through the development of strategic blog content, community engagement, and storytelling.
SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Effective in generating media coverage and journalistic stories that convey a positive message
  • Able to strategically develop successful earned media campaigns, in both local, regional, and national media markets
  • Knowledge of local media market, with media contacts in the ski and travel industry
  • Must be able to interact with a wide variety of personality types, and build beneficial relationships with both internal and external partners
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills, including experience in writing press releases and media alerts, and the ability to discuss complex matters clearly and succinctly
  • Able to communicate in alignment with the Solitude brand
  • Able to craft compelling stories via copy, video, and audio
  • Prior communications and public relations experience in the ski or tourism industry is necessary
  • Must be comfortable with public and on-camera speaking
  • Must understand the qualities of good action and lifestyle photography
  • Skilled user of all Microsoft Office suite tools
  • Must be flexible with work schedule and job duties as required. Weekends and some holidays required
  • Self-starter with strong organizational skills
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in communications, journalism, public relations, or marketing
  • Advanced skiing or snowboarding ability
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop an annual communications plan that includes local, regional, and national coverage for Solitude
  • Draft press releases and media alerts, following best practices for proofing and editing
  • Draft and edit marketing copy
  • Proactively initiate media visits while coordinating incoming media requests
  • Generate and manage relationships with influencers, local and national media contacts, and bloggers within the ski, travel, and outdoor industries
  • Use Solitude assets and resources to tell the Solitude story
  • Research trending topics to generate blog content
  • Schedule influencer, media, blogger, and athlete visits to ensure strategic development of content
  • Negotiate with and co-manage Solitude's content team, which includes local athletes, ambassadors, and photographers
  • Accompany photo/video production on- and off-mountain
  • Develop an annual photo and video shot list
  • Manage photo and video asset library
  • Manage internal communication, in cooperation with HR
  • Engage with community stakeholders, including Ski Utah, Visit Salt Lake, Utah Office of Tourism, Save our Canyons, Big Cottonwood Canyon Foundation
  • Develop relationships with community organizations that align with Solitude's values and goals
  • Travel for media tours with Ski Utah, Ski City and other trade functions as assigned
