Downtown Partnership of Baltimore (DPOB) is looking for a Director of Events & Marketing for their corporate headquarters on South Charles Street. This position will be responsible for establishing and nurturing strong relationships with consumers, partners, and sponsors to create and execute engaging events with the purpose of highlighting and marketing Downtown Baltimore.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Directs and overseas DPOB's event planning/management, on-site logistics and maintenance, vendor negotiations and performance, internal communications, and budgeting
  • Conducts sponsor prospecting, oversees sponsorship, relationship building, implementation, coordination and solicitation for consumer events and promotions
  • Creates engaging and compelling pitches, presentations, ROIs for wrap up, and other essential events related pieces
  • Supports the VP of Marketing with the development and execution of an overall Downtown marketing program for leisure visitors and residents
  • Identifies methods of promoting visits to Downtown spaces, with special attention on placemaking activations in under-utilized destinations such as parks and plazas
  • Uses metrics to develop event KPIs to gauge event successes and opportunities for growth
  • Directs DPOB's consumer event marketing activities, including but not limited to: Baltimore Restaurant Week, Charles Street Promenade, Spring Break Skate, Pratt Street Market, Center Plaza Summer Concert Series, and Downtown Discovery Days
  • Develops and coordinates annual event schedule/calendar mapping of all dates including one-day festivals, recurring park activities, partner organizations and promotional consumer experiences to include but not limited to Monument Lighting, CIAA Basketball Tournament, Fleet Week, and MLK Parade
  • Manages permits, contracts, vendor, and contractor paperwork such as insurance certificates, W9s, and hold harmless forms in a timely and organized manner
  • Develops and maintain clear logistics plans including detailed planning timelines, signage, and day-of-event run-of-show instructions
  • Establishes relationships with attractions, museums, and restaurants, linking them with event opportunities and promotions
  • Coordinates any special project as deemed appropriate by the Vice President of Marketing
  • Coordinates with marketing and communications team to prepare, design, and deliver promotional materials and press deliverables
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree, preference for marketing, communications or public relations
  • Minimum of 7 years' experience with consumer facing organization with an emphasis on events and placemaking
  • Minimum of 3-5 years' experience with AMS or CRM responsibilities in a non-profit environment
  • Career background that encompasses external sales, marketing, and event planning
  • Experience raising funds for large scale special projects that led to public private partnerships
  • Experience improving efficiency and developing KPIs to drive operational standards
  • Direct supervisory experience with coordinators or interns
Skills and Experience:
  • Strong preference for previous experience in a consumer facing organization
  • Excellent leadership and strategic planning skills
  • Strong proficiency with Salesforce, Microsoft Office, Adobe, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Demonstrated ability to move the needle of success, with extensive experience collaborating with other teams
  • Ability to establish and maintain credibility and trustworthiness
  • Ability to be clear and direct in both written and verbal forms of communication
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated relationship management skills and success with an attention to details
  • Baltimore City metropolitan area resident preferred
Position Type/Expected Work Hours
  • This is a full-time exempt position primarily in-office, but frequently travels to various indoor and outdoor event locations for on-site management, setup, and breakdown.
  • Often works irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate event schedules and deadlines.
  • Manages high-pressure situations, ensuring smooth execution of events, handling last-minute changes, troubleshooting issues, and juggling multiple projects and priorities simultaneously, often with tight deadlines.
