Campus Planning and Construction (CPC) supports university faculty, staff, and students in small construction and renovation projects and is part of the Facilities Department. CPC is responsible for planning, executing, and evaluating activities related to completing new construction and renovation projects on behalf of Vanderbilt. CPC will coordinate the design, bid, and management of the project in a safe, timely, and organized manner. They coordinate current and potential projects with all university stakeholders. CPC acts as a representative of the university to outside vendors/dealers/contractors to acquire adequate and competitive pricing.

Facilities annual budget exceeds $100 million in operating expenses and includes over 500 employees. Facilities manages major capital project expenditures totaling ~$300 million annually and facility renewal, replacement and large maintenance project expenditures totaling ~$20 million annually.

Key Functions and Expected Performance:

Serves as primary liaison and collaborator between client groups, consultants, and various institutional service units. Provides support and guidance to leadership and project management team on area(s) of expertise.

Oversees project design, bids, orders, and installation for clients to ensure design/function is achieved and consistent with overall Institutional design guidelines. Reviews, negotiates, and processes change requests and change orders.

Participates in interior and exterior designed space of new facilities, additions, and renovations as assigned; concurrently manages multiple simple to complex projects from assignment through project close-out.

Reviews projects for affordability, consistency, and completeness of design, according to project objectives; inspects furnishings and finishes to ensure conformance to plans and specifications.

Manages or oversees project support activities including development and maintenance of job files and tracking of project schedule and budget; directly responsible for scope, budget, and schedule development of assigned projects.

Oversees and coordinates activities of contractors, vendor personnel, and suppliers: monitors contracts for compliance and controls costs. Performs quality control inspections to ensure adherence to contract specifications and industry standards.

Researches, composes, and formats content of all Interior Environments Standards to ensure a unified approach to quality, functionality, and longevity. Maintains broad knowledge of current and emerging products, materials, and design.

Oversees or manages the planning, selection, procurement and installation of furniture, fixture, equipment, and art; may be responsible or may share responsibility for occupant move-in to new or renovated facilities.

Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Relationships:

This position does not have supervisory responsibility; this position reports administratively and functionally to the Director of Campus Planning & Construction.

Education and Certifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design from an accredited four-year college or university is strongly preferred.

Registered Professional Architect or Interior Designer is strongly preferred.

Experience and Skills:

At least 5 years of relevant experience is required.

Experience in a higher education institutional setting is preferred.

Proven background in project management is required.

Experience with the following Software: Microsoft Office Suite, eBuilder Project Management, Adobe Acrobat Suite is recommended.

Strong organizational, interpersonal, communication (verbal and written) skills are strongly preferred.

No travel required.

Ability to provide solutions in a high-volume environment, ability to remain calm and objective throughout stressful and difficult situations is required.

Knowledge of facilities, design and furniture industry is preferred.
