The University of St. Thomas (UST), a private Catholic University committed to the liberal arts and the religious and intellectual tradition of Catholic higher education, located in Houston, Texas, near the vibrant central business district, Texas Medical Center, and museum district, is seeking applicants for a full-time Rising Stars Program Coordinator. This position reports directly to the Rising Stars Program Director. The Rising Stars program is designed to help first-generation or lower-income students attend UST with little to no out-of-pocket tuition costs while simultaneously gaining first-hand work experience within Houston's corporate community. Students are placed with a corporate sponsor and earn funds toward their tuition by working onsite at their designated sponsor's office during the academic year.

Summary:

The Rising Stars Program Coordinator will assist with the development and implementation of the Rising Stars internship program. The position will work closely with the Program Director in initiating and enhancing offerings and processes, protocols and procedures from the time of enrollment to program completion/graduation using a proactive approach to student success.

Job Responsibilities:Assist in the coordinating and supervising of the Rising Stars students and serve as a point of contact for daily student engagement to ensure program requirements are met.Assist in the development and tracking of mandatory, annual professional development programming for Rising Stars students to receive lessons on topics including: (i) business etiquette, (ii) resume writing, (iii) training in Word, Excel and PowerPoint and other basic computer skills, (iv) time-management and project management and (v) exploring their interests, passions and motivationsAssist in planning and implementing Rising Stars student functions and events.Schedule monthly one-on-one meetings with assigned Rising Stars students to provide necessary guidance on any challenges or needsMonitor Rising Stars students to ensure they are performing duties assigned to them by corporate sponsors while balancing University courseworkWork closely with Rising Stars Director and the Director of Corporate Relations to address any student or corporate sponsor concernsRegularly communicate with professors to track Rising Stars students' progress in the classroom to ensure they are eligible to continue within the internship programWork closely with other departments on campus, including Career Services and Student Affairs, to encourage Rising Stars students to take advantage of on-campus resourcesThis position should anticipate occasionally supporting students during non-traditional business hours including evenings and weekends.Assist with the Rising Stars admissions process by attending recruitment events, speaking with perspective students and families, collecting and tracking student applications, surveys, and interview videos.Assist Director of Corporate relations with collecting corporate surveys and student feedback.Assist in gathering and organizing data on student successes and goalsWork as the lead on the Celt Food PantryOther projects and tasks assigned.Requirements:

Undergraduate degree is required.Minimum of 3 years of related experience demonstrating a deep understanding of University administrative, student and program policies, practices and organizationExperience in an academic advising capacity preferred.In-depth knowledge about federal and state educational grants available to studentsExperience working with diverse student populationsAbility to develop and nurture relationships with team members, students, faculty, alumni and University officesAbility to advise students, showing good judgment about when to make referrals, set boundaries, and equip students with skills and strategies to engage in self-advocacyStrong organizational, time management and relationship management skills with demonstrated ability to work as a team player.Results-oriented individual who can anticipate and identify problems, opportunities, and takes decisive action to proactively address them.Experience with database management software systems is preferred especially experience with Lacai and PeopleSoft.
