The Position

We're hiring a

Business Development & Marketing Manager

for the

Port of Portland !

As the Marine Business Development Manager, you will spearhead vital projects and initiatives that drive the future growth and success of our terminals. Your leadership will be essential in expanding our cargo business by optimizing Port assets and attracting more cargo through our facilities. You will play a pivotal role in promoting and marketing our marine terminals, fostering relationships with internal teams, terminal operators, and various stakeholders. Representing the Port of Portland at industry events and traveling as necessary will be key aspects of your role to advance our marketing goals.

The Port of Portland operates three marine terminals that handle Containerized, Breakbulk, Dry Bulk and Auto cargoes that connect businesses across the region to global markets by shipping their products to countries around the world. Your role:

You're the relationship guru! Help our marine business by managing marine business development and marketing functions to achieve strategic business goals. Join us in this dynamic role where your strategic vision and leadership will shape the future of our marine business and contribute to our long-term success.Essential Job Duties

Lead strategic projects/initiatives that are critical to future terminal development and associated revenue growth.Manage and oversee cargo business for the Port of Portland.

Optimize Port assets to attract more cargo through Port facilities.Promote and market marine terminals through interaction with internal staff, terminal operators, and a variety of customer/stakeholders.Support terminal managers in maintaining commercial relationships with terminal tenants.Represent the department at industry related functions.Travel as necessary, to fulfill the Port's marketing goals.

Provide leadership and oversight to marketing and business development functions.

Set and implement strategies, establish metrics and goals, manage performance, engage, and develop team members.Ensure accountability and safety culture. Assist terminal operators in fulfilling tenant needs.

Engage with terminal managers to educate self on terminal operations and labor matters.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and experience:

Bachelors degree in Business, Marketing, International Trade, or Transportation.Minimum five (5) years experience in managing a program in business development and marketing or related field. With at least three (3) years experience in leading teams. Or a combination of related education and/or work experience.Maintain a valid state driver's license is required.Obtain and maintain a valid US Passport at time of hire is required.Must successfully pass a comprehensive background check.Ability to obtain and maintain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) from the Federal government is required. All licensing fees will be reimbursed by the Port of Portland.Demonstrated knowledge and skills:

Supplemental and Selection Information

SELECTION PROCESS (subject to change):

A minimum qualification evaluation of education, training, and experience of submitted application packets will take place by Human Resources the week of July 28, 2024.

A Subject Matter Expert (SME) Panel will perform an evaluation of experience and training taken from your employment application materials including any responses to the supplemental questionnaire.

Our goal is to schedule first interviews with candidates that successfully passed the SME evaluation step the week of August 12, 2024.
