Summary: Under the direction of the chief marketing officer, this position is responsible for the marketing and business development activities of the credit union to achieve the strategic plan, including but not limited to advertising, promotions, special events, and community relations. Develops the strategic marketing plan in support of corporate loan, deposit, and growth goals. Monitors plan progress and creates the tactical action steps necessary to achieve corporate results. Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the marketing communications and business development teams, including administrative control and the development and monitoring of performance expectations of the staff. Leads development and execution of marketing-related activities and initiatives across all product and service lines, demanding frequent interaction and discussion with the market research and product development team. Makes presentations to and engages in strategic discussions with executive management.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning - Works with the chief marketing officer to develop annual strategic marketing and business development plans in support of corporate growth goals, and the creation and implementation of the tactical plan. Monitors progress and ensures the timely adjustment of marketing strategies and plans to meet changing market and competitive conditions. Presents results and recommendations to executive leadership.
Leadership and Development - Motivate staff toward accomplishing goals, productivity, accuracy and efficiency. Ensure the mission, core values of the credit union and cooperative principles are put into practice within the Marketing department. Demonstrate APGFCU leadership, cultural, and behavioral standards by modeling expectations. Directly oversee the leadership team of the Marketing department through carrying out responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies for effective leadership and management. Responsible for all areas of talent development for departmental staffing including interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; promoting, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving concerns. Consult with Human Resources about all employee relations matters and staffing strategic initiatives. Develop career paths for the professional development and promotion of employees within the Credit union; ensure smooth transitions during management changes. Coach and mentor direct reports in preparation for succession planning. Develop a cohesive department, coordinating activities of assigned areas.
Risk Management: Develops credit union policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal regulations regarding financial institutions, develops and ensures the security and growth of overall operations. Ensure high-quality, efficient, prompt, and professional services are provided in compliance with policies, procedures and within NCUA regulations, and all applicable laws. Regularly meets with Leadership team to discuss current activities; identify and respond to trends; identify products or process enhancements.
Technology/Equipment/Research: Ensures teams are equipped with the technology, equipment and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals of the credit union. Responsible for continuously moving the department to more efficient technologies. Ensure areas of responsibility have in place alternative disaster recovery plans in the event of system failure.
Budget Management: Create, monitors, allocate and reconcile annual department budget. Forecast any anticipated expenditures as needed.
Community Development: Maintain an active role in the community to improve the credit union's visibility.
Project Management: Lead, facilitate and coordinate project work within and across business units, ensure project deadlines are met and implementation and results are achieved as designed. Collaborate cross departmentally to prioritize solutions, and act as project lead where applicable.
Communications, Advertising and Promotions - Develops, communicates and implements long- and short-term communications objectives (both external and internal) in order to support the overall mission and goals of the credit union. Ensures the credit union's brand and image are effectively presented in all marketing materials, media, and public relations initiatives. Responsible for the content/theme of messages and the selection and monitoring of media channels such as digital, print, television, radio, direct mail, outdoor and social media. This responsibility extends to the image, tone, content, and administration of the credit union's electronic-based services, including the corporate website and U Connect, the intranet communications and information channel for employees. Directs the development and staging of corporate events, including the annual meeting.
Business Development - Directs the business development function to ensure membership and business/community partner relationship goals are achieved. Works with the business development directors to grow achieve or exceed annual growth targets for APGFCU[redacted] partnerships and community engagement activities. Participates in events and represents the credit union at various community and business functions.
Member Experience - Utilizing feedback from surveys and focus groups, identifies opportunities to improve the member experience. In collaboration with appropriate corporate triads and leadership, develops and implements strategies to enhance member experience and satisfaction.
Member Education - Responsible for the creation and distribution of member education materials including newsletters, website articles, print collateral and seasonal/special event publications, including the annual report. Works with the financial education team to ensure strategies and tactics are effective and coordinated. Works in a creative and fulfillment capacity with other departments on segmented member education efforts (youth, auto buyers, homebuyers, etc.)
Sales - Provides marketing support to the sales function to assist with a results-driven sales program, which is aligned with corporate growth strategies and responsive to staff and members' needs. Uses cross-functional collaboration to ensure a coordinated approach and efficient use of time and resources, including branch merchandising and communicating plans on the corporate intranet.
Internal and External Partnerships/Vendor Management: Develop and maintain excellent relationships with internal and external partners and vendors; addressing, resolving or escalating, as needed. Participate in interdepartmental credit union meetings to provide support and assistance in resolving day-to-day challenges and be proactive in recommendations for improving efficiencies and partnerships. Responsible for vendor due diligence within the department.
Additional: Responsible for completion of applicable training and compliance on federal regulations and APGFCU policies and procedures as related to the duties of this position (Bank Secrecy Act, Information Security as examples, if applicable).

Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications or related field. Experience can be credited in lieu of education. Additional education or certification in marketing-related disciplines are a plus.
Experience: Minimum of 12 years' experience in marketing management to include exposure to a strong sales-focused environment and leading a remote workforce. Credit union and/or financial institution experience a plus.
