Director of Music

Purpose:

To provide leadership for the music ministry of FHUMC as director of church musical groups (Sanctuary Choir and handbell ensemble, also brass ensemble that participates in worship service as scheduled) in consultation with the pastor.

Essential Functions:

Pianist/Organist for 10:30 a.m. Sunday morning services, weddings, funerals, and other seasonal worship services (Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Easter and Christmas cantatas).

Directs weekly rehearsals for Sanctuary Choir handbell ensemble, brass ensemble that participate in worship services as scheduled.

Collaborates with IT Director in sound setup for worship.

Organizes Summer Music Camp.

Music support for Vacation Bible School and other church events as requested.

Responsible for purchase, organization and care of all music and choir supplies under the restriction of the church budget.

Oversight of tuning church musical instruments.

Knowledge of media communication, computer hardware and music software, as well as basic clerical and time management skills.

Requirements

Educational requirements include either a degree in music or comparable experience as a church musician.

Reports to the church pastor as a staff member of Fort Hill.

Director of Communication

Purpose : To promote the vision, mission, and activities of FHUMC through a wide range of media in consultation with the pastor.

Essential Functions

Develops, manages, maintains, evaluates, and reports on use of FHUMC website.

Uses video editing software to produce and post weekly video of sermon.

Maintains and updates information on the electronic church sign.

Creates communication strategies to market, inform, and promote teaching series, major events, and other campaigns as assigned on the internet/social media.

Develops, monitors, and manages all social media platforms for FHUMC and FHUMC ministry groups.

Designs all art and promotional materials with creativity and effectiveness.

Works with social media and assists the pastor in social media relations.

Assists other staff and committees with communication needs.

Be present at church events to photograph or record for social media or arrange for photography or videography.

Creates PowerPoint for Sunday morning worship in consultation with pastor.

Education

Associate/BS degree in marketing or communications preferred OR 3 years + of experience in marketing communications

Knowledge

Communication and Media –

Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods. This includes alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media.

English Language –

Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.

Computers and Electronics –

Knowledge of computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.

Online Communication –

Knowledge of Word Press, social media, mass email.

Clerical –

Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word-processing, managing files and records, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology

Technology –

Ability to use or learn to use communication software.

Time Expectation and Salary

The time expectation for this position is 30 hours per week with a minimum salary of $40,000 and additional salary based on experience and educational background. Salary is paid monthly on the last working day of the month.
