ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:Manage and lead the choir and the musical team (e.g., assistant choir director, choir guides, band lead, band) through various in-person and software methods.Support the development of choir members.Arrange and organize the music, determining the role of each choir member.Recruit, facilitate, and conduct singing auditions for new and past choir members along with the Assistant Choir Director.Recruit and choose potential band members and collaborate in organizing and arranging music that complements the choir.Assist the Glide music program by accompanying and conducting the choir, and singing as a music leader.Keep the music proportioned and synchronized to avoid distractions during worship.Lead or assign persons to lead the congregation in community singing.Choose songs in line with the genres of gospel, jazz, blues, folk, and R&B roots of Glide Memorial Church and The Glide Ensemble.Coordinate with other churches and arts institutions for outside events and activities.Facilitate an annual choir building outing for the education and growth of the choir.Research new and old songs for Sunday Celebrations and events, and lead weekly rehearsals.Ensure choir members have access to materials for rehearsing.Participate in the Celebration Planning Team for archival video inclusion in Virtual Sunday Celebrations.Attend weekly Planning Team meetings, dress rehearsals, and Sunday Celebrations.QUALIFICATIONS:Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills.Mastery in playing musical instrument, reading music, and singing.Experience conducting and leading a medium to large choir.Knowledgeable in different musical genres and rooted in black gospel music traditions.Experience managing, conducting, and working with bands, choirs, or other musical groups.Maintain integrity and passion for the rehearsal and performance process.Ability to work effectively across cultures and demonstrate a commitment to learning and working respectfully with diverse groups.Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.Good verbal and written communication skills.Excellent conducting and vocal skills.A music degree is helpful but not required.
