SALARY RANGE:

POSITION SUMMARY:

The BOLD Associate Artistic Director position is designed to address inequities in the field by offering opportunities for female+ theatre directors with regional theatre leadership aspirations. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced, energetic, collaborative, and values-driven leader, dedicated to transformative work that builds strong communities. The BOLD Associate Artistic Director will be a passionate, compelling champion of theater joining a cohort of other female+ leaders across the country as part of the BOLD Women's Leadership Circle. They will work alongside Alliance's Jennings Hertz Artistic Director Tinashe Kajese-Bolden and senior staff further developing their theatre management, producing methods, and administration skills.

As a member of the artistic department and senior staff, they will play an integral role in season planning, evaluating potential projects, resources and partnerships within the context of The Alliance Theaters mission and values; oversee the Reiser Atlanta Artists Lab, in collaboration with the BOLD Producing Associate; serve as a thought partner with Artistic Directors on the expansion of a novel producing model on and around the new Goizueta Stage for Youth and Families (opening January 2026) to meet the vibrant culture of our city with unique non-traditional programming; and support the Spelman Leadership Fellows Program (in collaboration with the Director of Engagement, Partnerships and IDEA). When artistically matched, the BOLD Associate Artistic Director will direct, or associate direct, a production in the Alliance season or new work development readings. This is a full-time position and opportunities to direct outside of the Alliance Theater will be considered on a case-by-case basis with the intent to advance the candidates networking opportunities yet remain intrinsically aligned with the needs of the AT's rapidly growing operational goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

STAFF RESPONSIBILITIESAttend monthly one-on-one check-ins with artistic director Tinashe Kajese-Bolden.Attend the following weekly meetings: senior staff, artistic department, production-artistic-casting, community engagement.Liaise with and present content to the Alliance Theatre Board of Directors.Attend board meetings, including executive board sessions and finance committee meetings.Attend informal events and formal meetings with prospective and current donors.Participate in the season selection process for the 2025/26 season and beyond.Contribute dramaturgical support on all commissions and new work.When artistically matched, serve as associate director or director on an Alliance production under the staff member agreement.Attend industry events locally and nationally.Collaborate closely with the Artistic Directors to integrate artistic and operationalgoals, ensuring a cohesive approach to programming, productions, andorganizational development.REISER ATLANTA ARTISTS LAB

Contribute dramaturgical support and artistic mentorship to the 3 Reiser cohorts per seasonEnhance artistic development for the greater Atlanta community beyond the selected cohortsSupport the BOLD Producing Associate in producing the Reiser Artist New Works Festival, overseeing artistic needs, Pitch Party and attending related events.SPELMAN LEADERSHIP PROGRAM INTERN AND FELLOWSHIP SUPPORT

Aid in the selection management of the cohort.In collaboration with the resident artist and Director of Engagement, Partnerships and IDEA, provide support and mentorship for the interns and fellows. Facilitate internal and external networking opportunities. Internal: Identify board mentors and create supportive engagements with interns and fellows. External: Provide oversight and support of professional development and job networking.ARTISTIC DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS

Create a series of workshops (minimum 2 workshops per season) offering an array of professional development experiences for local actors/directors with a focus on artists that have understudied or associate directed at AT. Examples include but are not limited to: audition technique, scene study, monologue selection, union membership, and the business of acting in Atlanta and nationwide.QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

EDUCATION/BACKGROUND

A terminal degree in Directing or Theatre Management and 2-3 years of professional experience (including some leadership roles) are recommended. We recognize that not all artistic leaders of the future will have MFAs and we are excited to meet people from all theatre backgrounds who will contribute their unique skills, energy, and expertise to this community and will use their time at the Alliance Theatre to launch the next phase of their leadership career.
