Description:

The High School Theatre Costume Designer/Coordinator is responsible for advising and receiving assistance from students involved with the Costume crew, overseeing the design and production of the costumes for 3 different shows throughout the year and maintaining the production standards of the Staples High School extracurricular theater group, Staples Players. In addition to the tech director, the duties of overseeing and producing the plays and musicals are shared with the Co-Directors, Producer, Lighting Designer, Costume Designer, Sound Designer, and Set Designer.The position is involved in three productions annually and includes 3 separate stipends. It is possible to share this position with another person.

Responsibilities:

Collaborate with Directors and Designers to establish look and feel for the given productionConstruct/purchase/pull pieces from our collection in order to costume each show;Coordinate costume rentals, if applicable;Communicate with and schedule student crew work sessions and call times;Participate in 2-3 weekend "work days" with students and parents during major productions;Communicate and collaborate with parent volunteers;Collaborate and coordinate with Co-Directors, Lighting Designer and Set Designer as needed.Supervise the putting away of costumes after conclusion of the production.

Qualifications

Strong organizational and interpersonal skills in working with students, parents, staff, and production team;Excellent communication skills and willingness to collaborate with staff and students;Ability to serve as a positive, ethical role model;Ability to establish a strong rapport with students;Excellent sense of design and time period;Costuming experience is preferred but not an absolute requirement;Sewing skills are preferred but not required.

Stipend : According to Appendix B, Extracurricular Activities Salary Schedule of the WEA Contract - between$2,740-$3,495 (under SHS Drama Production Assistant category)
