GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

The Assistant Web Developer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining user-friendly and responsive web interfaces for Middlesex College’s online platforms. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of modern web technologies and a keen eye for design. This role requires collaboration with various departments to ensure the delivery of a seamless and engaging user experience for students, faculty, and staff.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions:

Assists in the design and implementation of new features and functionality for the College’s website and intranet site, ensuring a visually appealing and user-friendly interface.Evaluates existing websites, creates plans for improvements, and implements changes in collaboration with the Marketing and Communications team, as well as the Information Technology department and other campus constituents when needed.Aids in the information architecture for each site or content management system (CMS).Actively searches for and identifies bugs, and implements fixes to ensure smooth operation and optimal user experience.Executes rigorous QA processes to validate site functionality and performance and ensures sites meet accessibility standards and brand guidelines. Addresses and fixes any issues before they impact end-users.Manages content updates to keep sites current and relevant and works with copywriters to ensure design and content are aligned.Works alongside Web Developer to develop and implement strategies to optimize content workflows and ensure efficient production processes.Provides technical guidance during project planning.Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree; andTwo (2) years’ experience as a web developer, web programmer, software analyst, or similar position.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Strong knowledge of content management systems, particularly WordPress;Strong knowledge of front-end technologies, including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript;Experience developing custom WordPress themes and/or plugins;Experience building user interfaces for websites and/or web applications;Experience designing and developing accessible (WCAG AA) and responsive websites;Familiarity working with debugging tools, like Chrome DevTools or Firefox Developer Tools;Demonstrated ability to convert comprehensive layouts and wireframes into working HTML pages;Demonstrated ability to understand CSS changes and their ramifications to ensure consistent style across platforms and browsers;Experience with PHP development;Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud applications; andExcellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with an ability to work with a diverse population.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The work is sedentary work which requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:

Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.Mental Acuity: Ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes.Repetitive Motion: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers.Visual Acuity 1: Have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and/or extensive reading.

SCHEDULE : Monday - Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm

Work Arrangement

Consistent with the current application of Middlesex College Policy 4.18.0, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, and are subject to change or cancellation. Further, they are contingent on the employee completing an initial probationary work period and receiving approval from his or her immediate supervisor, and may be re-evaluated after six (6) months.
