Reporting to the Executive Director, Communications & Marketing for University Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement, the Communications & Marketing Specialist II is a skilled proposal and project writer on the Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement Communications team. The role will be adept at creating compelling proposals and managing project writing initiatives across various development-focused program areas, including Fundraising, Stewardship, Planned Giving, and Corporate and Foundation Relations. This role is pivotal in supporting the university's philanthropic priorities by producing high-quality, donor-focused communication materials.

Duties & ResponsibilitiesProposal Writing and Content Management:Craft and manage content for communication materials that support fundraising, stewardship, planned giving, and corporate and foundation relations initiatives.

Develop and write detailed proposals for philanthropic gifts of $25,000 and above, ensuring alignment with the university's strategic priorities and donor interests.

Assist in the creation of presentations, scripts and donor reports, and annual impact report.

Collaborative Content Development:Establish collaborative processes with senior leadership and staff across the Belknap and Health Sciences Center campuses to shape content and strategy for various communication mediums, focusing on complex and sensitive philanthropic proposals.

Work with the Prospect Research & Development team to convert data into strategic, creative, and donor-focused content.

Strategic Communication:Coordinate with the Office of the President to develop strategic communications related to philanthropy, ensuring high-quality output that effectively conveys the university's fundraising goals.

Manage high-level communications on behalf of the Interim VP for Advancement, including scheduling meetings and donor outreach.

Project Management and Tracking:Implement and maintain an effective tracking system for all proposal-related materials to ensure timely and accurate progress monitoring.

Provide templates, presentation materials, and talking points for Advancement leadership and development officers to support their fundraising efforts.

Grant Writing:Lead the creation of grant materials in collaboration with the Executive Director for Corporate and Foundation Relations and key internal stakeholders.

Ensure all grant proposals are well-researched, compelling, and aligned with the university's strategic objectives.

Compliance and Best Practices:Adhere to university legal restrictions and policies for donor outreach, including privacy restrictions, the CAN-SPAM act, PCI compliance, state and national charitable giving regulations, and guidelines set forth by the Foundation and University Advancement.

Cross-Departmental Collaboration:Collaborate with school/college marketing and communications coordinators to support development and fundraising initiatives across different units and departments.

Work closely with the Office of the President to coordinate strategic communications related to philanthropy, ensuring the production of high-quality products which effectively share the university's strategic fundraising priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

Proven experience in proposal writing, grant writing, and project management, preferably within a university or nonprofit setting.

Strong ability to create strategic, donor-focused content.

Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with senior leadership and various stakeholders.

Familiarity with constituent engagement software and data-driven content creation.

Knowledge of legal restrictions and best practices in donor communication and outreach.

Thorough knowledge and understanding of technical applications including design concepts, various media and mediums, applications, etc.

Thorough knowledge of the institution, including its mission, vision, goals, policies, and infrastructure; strong knowledge of current affairs and issues in higher education and/or health sciences.

Competencies

Exceptional written, verbal, interpersonal communications, active listening, collaboration skills. Ability to obtain goals by exercising political acumen and discretion.

Excellent knowledge and understanding of all aspects of communications, including print, digital, and multimedia communications strategy and development.

Excellent skills to create, develop and implement long- and short-term strategic communications plans based on project objective and target audience(s). Skilled at identifying effective strategies for key messaging and delivery platform(s) and managing complex stakeholder review and approval processes.

Excellent skills to advise and consult management of communications, ranging from developing effective communication strategies to appropriately responding to inquiries regarding sensitive or complex issues or information.

Excellent analytical, critical thinking, project management and problem recognition, facilitation, and resolution skills.

Excellent skills to ensure production of high-quality work within budget and time constraints.
