As the Packaging Designer in our Girl Brands division, you will work closely with the packaging design and cross-functional teams to create cost-effective, attractive, functional, and safe packaging for various brands. Your responsibilities will include assisting in the conceptualization, design, and execution of physical and digital prototypes that capture attention. By utilizing design elements such as shape, color, graphics, and typography, you will craft packaging that resonates with our target markets. In this role, you will influence all consumer-facing design initiatives within our packaging department for the assigned brands.
What you will do:
Develop innovative packaging design graphics and systemsStrong knowledge of packaging design structures that can be mass producedCommunicate information on materials and packaging design to cross-functional teamsKnowledge of production process and design files accordinglyDemonstrate understanding of packaging design and material costActively research consumer and market trends and apply them to packaging design and materialsStrong knowledge of materials and substrates to be used in the production processRegularly attend and participate in meetings with cross-functional departmentsRetain and implement information and duties from team meetingsProvide updates on current projects to the Packaging ManagerSupport the Senior Packaging Designer throughout the design processProvide mentorship to Associate Packaging Designers, nurturing their skills developmentCreate a basic Packaging Brief and collaborate with the Brand and Copywriting team to finalizeModify and create packaging die linesCommunicate project status and needs with the Asia packaging teamCommunicate with the Asia packaging team to finalize files for productionDemonstrate strong time management to meet development schedule needsAble to multi-task on several prioritiesEnsure packaging designs accurately represent the company’s brandWork collaboratively to implement strategies across toy linesComplete final mock-up designs using appropriate computer softwarePrep files for trade show mock-upsPrepare submissions for licensor approvalFollow workflow and sign-off protocols to ensure final deliverables are error-freePrep final files for production and work with the production team on specifics such as Pantone matching, proofing, etc.Manages People: No
What we are looking for:
Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, art, industrial design or related field preferred3 - 5 years ofyears of experience in packaging design in the consumer packaging industry, ideally within the toys or kids' environmentExperience working with style guides and the creation of original artworkStrong graphic design skillsAn eye for innovation and creativityStrong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop productive professional relationshipsEffective and efficient visual, verbal, and written communication skillsWorking knowledge of printing processes (4 colors, spot colors, mechanical preparation, paper stock, and file formats)Clear understanding of print expectations, including, bleeds, die lines, retouching, formats, resolution, etc.Exhibit interest and proactively gain knowledge of the current trends/innovations as well as an understanding of the competitive marketplace in the toy industryComputer proficiency in Microsoft Office & G-SuiteStrong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (illustrator, photoshop, and InDesign)Able to work cross-functionally and reciprocally with multiple departmentsAble to work independently or collaborativelyBasic project management skillsKnowledge of materials and multiple manufacturing processesKnowledge of working with licensed brandsExceptional visual, verbal, and written communication skillsAble to multitask, organize, prioritize, and manage time efficientlyDemonstrates a strong design sense, including a well-developed sense of aestheticsCan easily adapt to shifting priorities, and can manage multiple priorities at one time, while also demonstrating vigilance in keeping projects moving forward and hitting deadlinesEffective problem solver and critical thinker; proactive in resolving issuesAbility to deal effectively with diverse individuals at all organizational levels in a professional mannerWorking Conditions
