About This Role:

Lamar University is looking for an Associate Athletics Director – Marketing to join our team. In this role, you will oversee promoting and advertising Lamar University Athletics. You will oversee a team of full-time staff members, including the Assistant Director Athletics Marketing, a Graphic Designer, and student athletics marketing team. Your main responsibilities will include managing the Lamar University Athletics brand and licensing, creating and implementing advertising campaigns, and working with the ticket sales team and the Director of Marketing Communications to ensure a consistent branding and marketing strategy.

What You’ll Do – Position Responsibilities:

As the Athletic and Sports Marketing Director at Lamar University, you will be responsible for developing and implementing marketing strategies to increase attendance, ticket revenue, and exposure for our athletic events. You will work closely with ticketing, donor relations, video production, and on-campus and community organizations to achieve these goals.

Your main responsibilities will include creating annual marketing plans for our intercollegiate athletics programs, with a focus on enhancing the game day experience and attracting more fans. You will collaborate with coaches to develop social media marketing plans for all sports, helping to drive attendance and improve recruiting efforts.

You will oversee all aspects of marketing for our home athletic events, including promotions, event scripting, and presentation. You will also manage advertising, social media, email marketing, and graphic design for our athletics department.

Community outreach will be another important aspect of your role. You will create and oversee projects to promote the Lamar University Athletics brand within the community. You will also assist with brand management and licensing within the athletic department.

Collaboration with corporate sales will be necessary to ensure that sponsorship agreements are fulfilled as promised, and you will also explore opportunities for community sponsorships. Working with the University Marketing team, you will develop content for both internal and external audiences.

You will play a role in fulfilling and executing sold sponsorship inventory at home events. You will leverage campus resources to enhance marketing efforts targeted towards students, conducting research on best practices and implementing new ideas to increase student attendance at home events.

To ensure the smooth execution of our annual plans and athletic events, you will delegate tasks to your team and provide oversight. You will also be responsible for conducting pre-event marketing previews, post-game summaries, and evaluating the performance of marketing staff.

In terms of personnel management, you will supervise a team of three full-time staff members (assistant director, video coordinator, graphic designer), two graduate assistants, and student staff. You will also handle payment requests and manage marketing reconciliation.

Traveling with teams for football and postseason games for soccer, volleyball, basketball, football, baseball, and softball will be required in this role. You will also be responsible for video board design and content creation, as well as creating informative and creative videos for live events and special occasions.

You will oversee the LU Mascot Program and act as the Athletics Liaison for LU Bands, Spirit Squads, and Student Engagement. Additionally, you will be responsible for generating revenue ideas to promote attendance at our athletic events. This job description may include other duties as assigned to support the overall goals of the athletics department.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, communication, sports management, or related field.

3-5 years of related job experience.

Two (2) to Three (3) years of experience in athletic marketing/fan experiences.

Experience managing a team.

Knowledge in creating marketing collateral and/or concepts for an athletic department.

Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.

Must be able to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.

A basic understanding of college athletics.
