The Communications Department at Color Of Change includes the organization’s narrative, press, social media, design, video, brand partnerships, and cultural advocacy efforts. Using a variety of platforms and mediums, the team collaborates to elevate the stories and solutions we believe in, increase the demand for change, and help to spark a level and frequency of action that can force the hand of decision-makers and shift societal norms—all in service of achieving real, lasting and systemic change.POSITION DESCRIPTIONColor of Change is excitedly seeking a dynamic and experienced Communications Manager to join our Communications team. The ideal candidate will have between 2

- 4 years of experience, with a proven track record in social media management and press relations. The Communications Manager will be responsible for developing and executing comprehensive communication strategies to enhance our brand presence and reputation across various platforms and will leverage communications tools and strategies to help us win.Communications Managers will manage the holistic communications ecosystem of each campaign, which includes both the social media and press components of a select number of campaigns, and will balance the social media presence of these campaigns and the press outreach –via pitching earned media, op-ed writing, and broadcast pitching. Communications Managers at COC think synergistically about how social media and press play off of one another to bolster their campaign performance across both areas of media.

The Communications Team does not handle paid advertising.RESPONSIBILITIES:Responsibilities are split into three categories:Social Media Management (40%)Develop and implement social media strategies to increase brand awareness, boost engagement across platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and others, and amplify our impact across different groups and demographics, particularly Black people.In partnership with COC's creative team, create and curate engaging content, including graphics, video scripts, and written posts, that resonates with our target audience and aligns with our brand voice and values. The goal is to further our programmatic goals, mission, and talking points.Monitor social media channels for trends, news, and conversations relevant to our industry and company, and respond promptly to inquiries and comments.Engage partner organizations, influencers, and members directly online in order to not only build collaboration amongst fellow organizations in the non-profit space but also to build a brand name for COC amongst our followers.Press Management (40%)Cultivate and maintain relationships with journalists, editors, and media outlets to secure press coverage and media placements that elevate our brand visibility and reputation.Develop press materials, including press releases, media kits, and pitch emails, that effectively communicate key messages and news announcements to the media.Coordinate media inquiries and interview requests, including preparing spokespeople and executives for media interactions and providing media training as needed.Secure at least 10 placements a month (be that op-eds or mentions) for COC.Monitor media coverage and industry news to identify opportunities for proactive media outreach and rapid response to emerging issues or crises.Track and report on media coverage and PR campaign performance, including metrics such as impressions, reach, sentiment, and share of voice.Collaborate with external PR agencies and partners to amplify our media outreach efforts and maximize coverage opportunities.Stay informed about industry trends, regulatory developments, and competitor activities to anticipate potential PR challenges and opportunities.Help draft messaging documents for each campaign before the launch of a campaign.Help craft talking point documents for COC spokespeople and prep them for public appearances.Be able to customarily and regularly exercise discretion and independent judgment in performing your job duties, and be comfortable in working under general supervision.Other duties as may be assigned.Other (20%)Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams to ensure alignment and integration of social media initiatives with overall business objectives.Analyze social media metrics and performance data to track the effectiveness of campaigns, identify areas for improvement, and make data-driven recommendations for optimization.Stay up-to-date with social media trends, best practices, and emerging platforms to continuously innovate and enhance our social media presence.Support the maintenance of communications tracking, analytics, and reporting systems.QUALIFICATIONSAt least 2 - 4 years of experience in communications, with a demonstrated focus on both social media management and press relations.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives and communicate effectively with diverse audiences.Strong relationship-building skills and a proven ability to engage and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.Proficiency in social media management tools (Meltwater), analytics platforms, and press monitoring services is preferred but not required.Creative thinking and problem-solving skills, with a strategic mindset and the ability to adapt to evolving priorities and challenges.Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.Be able to customarily and regularly exercise discretion and independent judgment in performing your job duties, and be comfortable in working under general supervision.MORE INFORMATIONLocation:

Communications Manager's position is $72,000 - $75,600 . Color Of Change also offers a competitive benefits package.
