OBJECTIVE:

Serve as an in-house design resource for the Experience Division. Responsibilities include conceptualizing, designing, and implementing new interactive exhibitions, graphics, and interior designs. Contribute to a broad range of exhibition projects blending interactive devices, large-scale theatrical environments, custom audio/visual presentations, and a variety of special effects into powerful learning experiences for diverse audiences of all backgrounds.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Ideal candidate can prioritize and manage multiple assignments and deadlines; possesses exemplary vision and creativity in the conception and design of three-dimensional exhibits; exciting structural detail; unusual new design ideas; and strong studio skills in quick sketch and perspective illustration. Thorough knowledge of a wide range of construction and finish materials, including metals, plastics, fiberglass, fabrics, woods, and laminates; and strong ability to visualize ideas and to communicate them through drawings or renderings necessary. Must have experience with prevalent design software such as VectorWorks (or equivalent CAD software and Adobe graphic programs). College degree in industrial design or related area preferred.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include, but are not limited to:Work with the COSI Team or COSI partners to understand and create exhibit requirements, user needs, and project goals. Brainstorm and develop creative concepts, exhibit themes, and experiences.Support the Experience Design Team in matters affecting the aesthetic or functional design of physical exhibits and environmental spaces; maximizing the Guests’ impact through visual, auditory, and tactile experiences.Provide in-house support of all design packages, including digital transmissions of drawings and art with outside vendors, production of intermediate designs for review, attendance at all final production checks, and facilitation of installation.Research and source materials, techniques, and processes which maximize the value of fabrication and construction aesthetics; both generally and in response to specific needs as determined.Project tracking and time management of in-house designed projects. Track closely all projects to assure adherence to schedule.Support general COSI operations through participation in meetings as appropriate.Serve as an example to other COSI Team Members and Volunteers in matters of appearance, attitude, and performance in a manner best serving COSI Team Members, Volunteers, and Guests.In accordance with COSI's Guest Services Strategy and as opportunities present themselves, provide excellence in Guest Services by assuring Guest safety, using courtesy to drive each Guest interaction, by delivering the COSI show, and by keeping operations efficient.Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Director of Experience Design and/or the Chief Experience Officer.
