Check you match the skill requirements for this role, as well as associated experience, then apply with your CV below.The Terminal Refresh / CTA West Station Design Manager reports to the Terminal Refresh Project Manager and is responsible for the delivery of all Terminal Refreshes in T2, T5, T6, T7 and the CTA West Station designs performed by various designers under different contracts. These scopes are a combination of small interior renovations, departure level curbside upgrades, and the creation of a warm vanilla shell on the 4th level of the APM West Station. The candidate shall have experience within large campus environments (aviation, transportation, higher education campuses, etc.). The individual shall be proactive in supporting the design team and its leaders and in expressing opinions for the greater good of the project. Communication and organizational skills to collaborate with many data points and people are highly desirable.Project and Position DescriptionThe Design Manager establishes and monitors procedures for engineering review activities to ensure they are done according to best practices and the design standards identified in the Contracts. The Design Manager shall oversee design support management, scope of work management, design review and approval, permitting, agency coordination support, and building information modeling (BIM) coordination. The Design Manager supports the Project Manager in providing oversight of the tenants/design-builders designs including architectural, structural, mechanical electrical plumbing (MEP), civil, utilities, and IT disciplines per LAWA standards. The Design Manager oversees the various design activities of the Terminal Refresh project.The project addresses outdated interior finishes and poor illumination in terminals that did not receive significant upgrades during the recent terminal modernization projects. It covers Terminal 2 east pre-security and curbside, and some departure level canopies. Renewal of certain mechanical, electrical and plumbing assets may be included in the project. The CTA West Station scope is to prepare for passenger movement when the APM opens and prepare the new open space for a high-end retail and dining environment.Key Job DutiesOverseeing the review and approval of technical documents (DRT process)Lending expertise to manage comment resolutionFacilitating meetings and being the technical liaison between the Developers/Design-Builders and TDIP Subject Matter Expert teamsWorking with the Project Manager in defining, reviewing and/or approving design requirements, responsibilities, and program consistencyProviding guidance to the Project Manager should design requirements contained in the project documents not be clearly definedProviding technical review of changes to scope of work for each projectEstablishing submittal approval procedures and ensure uniformity of review approachAuditing project team comments and designer responsesMonitoring compliance with architectural and engineering guidelines for the project ensuring consistency and quality in designMonitoring permitting information and the permitting process required by the design teamSupporting the Project Manager to ensure design reviews are completed on time and within budgetDeveloping and maintaining the project scope tracker to verify that all scope elements are accounted for and have been or will be assigned to a projectProviding guidance related to the functional requirements contained in the technical specifications or other project documents supplied by LAWAMonitoring BIM productions of all designers and contractors according to LAWA BIM Standards, the BIM Execution Plan, and needs of the projectActing as technical liaison for the design review processes and comment resolution in coordination with the project manager and the Design Review Team (DRT)Providing technical support and coordination between the project team and other TDIP project teams for program consistency across all disciplinesProviding technical support for adjacent LAWA projects as required to ensure accurate interfaceProviding technical coordination for project consistency across all disciplinesPreparing and reviewing briefings, meeting agendas, and supporting materials for various meetings including Board presentations, Steering Committee meetings, Stakeholder outreach, and other TDIP meetingsHardware/Software KnowledgeProficient in Microsoft Office Suite and BluebeamFamiliarity with Project Management Information SystemsAbility to work in CAD or REVIT a plusProfessional Experience Level/Other Qualifications10 years or more experience in managing the design of large, complex building projects, utilities and infrastructure improvements, preferably on airport projectsDesign management of complex aviation improvements experience requiredExperience managing a team of design professionalsExperience with projects more than $100 million in valueExperience with various delivery methods, including Design-Bid-Build, Design+CMAR and Design/BuildProven ability to perform in a management capacityExcellent written and oral communication skills and a thorough knowledge of industry practices and regulationsMust have a self-starter attitude with proactive, results-oriented focus; and be willing and capable to assume additional responsibilitiesMust be able to interface with a variety of people with different technical levels and educational backgroundsMust be detail-oriented and highly organizedEducation/TrainingBachelor's or master's degree in architecture, Engineering, and/or related field requiredProfessionally licensed Architect and/or Engineer preferredElement-Specific Requirements/NotesMay assume other duties as required/neededMay be required to work past regular work shiftMay be required to work various shifts as neededPlease note, if you move forward in the submission process, you will be asked to provide the following below.Most updated resumeCertifications or Licenses obtained3-4 Professional ReferencesProject List with values, dates, and company of any projects workedO2EPCM, Inc.
