Supervisory Interior Designer

Summary This position serves as a Supervisor, Interior Designer within the Facilities Management Service at the Orlando Veterans Affairs (VA) Healthcare Center located in Orlando, Florida. Responsibilities THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Provides guidance and direction in the planning and design for the new Orlando Medical Center. Works closely with the construction coordinator, architects and engineers for selection of materials and participates in activation to successful activation of the Orlando VAMC facility. Performs supervisory or managerial work related to the Interior Design Section in order to promote employee productivity, health, and welfare, and/or the health and welfare of the public. Investigates, identifies, and documents client needs; analyze needs, propose options and, works with the client, develops specific solutions; develops design documents to include contract working drawings and specifications; and, as appropriate, managing design projects performed in-house or by contract. Prepares the necessary visual aids, such as architectural drawings, renderings, color boards and physical models for presentation of projects to appropriate officials. Prepares floor plans, furnishings and accessory selections. Complete work before, during and after when interior design needs are developed. Prepares and maintains interior design budget. Develops cost estimates to cover furnishings required for projects included in the budget submissions. Prepares preliminary space plans for proposed projects, including detailed specifications, to evaluate alternatives. Utilizes Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Drafting Software to maintain accurate records of project in all stages, from planning and design through completion. Performs other duties assigned. Qualifications To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must have: At least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-11) in the Federal Service that has given you the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of an Interior Designer, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is experience that required the performance of work concerned with the design and alteration of interior spaces to meet functional and aesthetic needs such as: Identifying, researching, and creatively solving problems pertaining to the function and quality of the interior environment; Performing services relative to interior spaces, including programming, design analysis, space planning and aesthetics, using specialized knowledge of interior construction, building systems and components, building codes, equipment, materials, and furnishings; Preparing drawings and documents relative to the design of interior spaces in order to enhance and protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public; Coordinating and integrating the mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering disciplines within the interior context; Managing projects, developing cost estimates, evaluating bid proposals, reviewing construction documents, participating in on-site construction visits, conducting pre- and post-occupancy evaluations, developing standards for efficient space management, etc. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week.
