Title: Associate Designer

Job Type: Design, Game Development/Publishing

Location: United States, Utah

Avalanche, a division of WB Games Inc., seeks an Associate Designer to join the team working on the upcoming game, Hogwarts Legacy, a new open world, action RPG set in the Wizarding World.

The Daily

Works with the Production team throughout the development process to help create compelling gameplay and design systems

Interface with the Story team to collaborate on game design

Contribute to the strategic planning and design for new gaming projects

Present design ideas, receive feedback, then adjust designs and metrics accordingly

Implement game content such as world authoring in UE4, combat setups, event triggers and populating with gameplay objects

Build basic layouts using Maya, kit sets and UE4

Work in UE4’s blueprint tool

Work with other departments to implement SFX, FX, missions and other gameplay mechanics

Tutorial design and implementation

Other duties may be assigned

The Essentials

A passion for gaming and game development

Undergraduate degree or equivalent industry experience

Experience with Unreal 4 (UE4) and Maya

Good understanding of UE4’s Blueprints

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Ability to thrive in a collaborative, production-oriented environment

Remain current on console games and a knowledge of game mechanics across a variety of genres and platforms

Ability to collaborate with a design group and across other disciplines while maintaining a positive attitude

Highly motivated self-starter and creative thinker with fresh ideas

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Creative thinker with fresh ideas

Nice to Have

Industry experience as well as a related undergraduate degree

Pursuing a degree in Game Design or equivalent degree in a creative field strongly preferred. (Art/Illustration/Storytelling)
