Marketing Director, Out of Print (Hybrid)

Out of Print, a division of Penguin Random House, seeks a Marketing Director to manage sales, consumer, and brand marketing initiatives across its product line. The Marketing Director will collaborate with our product development and sales teams to help create marketing strategies and plans, manage goals and priorities for marketing our merchandise, and maximize revenue through targeted account-facing programs. In addition, the Marketing Director will manage the Out of Print social media and website teams to guide their efforts.

Out of Print’s mission is to celebrate the joy of reading by creating high-quality, stylish apparel and accessories. Designed with readers in mind, our products feature iconic book-related artwork and literary references to delight book lovers of all ages. Our shirts, totes, socks, and accessories allow readers to wear their favorite stories and share their love of reading with the world.

Operating across a varied portfolio of licenses, categories, and products, the Director collaborates with the director of merchandise on many stages of the product development process. As a key bridge between Sales and out-of-print, the Director manages the creation of materials and account marketing assets that impact sell-in.

The Director plays a driving role in planning product launches with sales, both new and backlist, as well as marketing direction for the e-commerce website team. The Director will manage our social media team in its efforts to support the Out of Print brand. In addition, the Director will, at times, be involved in creating marketing plans for acquisition pitches for new licenses and products.

This hybrid position has occasional in-office/in-person responsibilities, including but not limited to, attending in-person sales conferences, account meetings, and conventions. We will consider candidates who can work from a commutable distance to our offices at 1745 Broadway, which includes the tri-state area (NJ, CT, & PA).

The Role:

Creating marketing strategies, priorities, and plans for Out of Print product lines and licensesManaging team of designer/photo marketers and social media staff to execute plansReviewing sales materials and working with product and acquisitions staff to ensure that products are positioned to best maximize sales opportunities and merchandisingLiaising between sales and working with Director of Merchandise to set agendas, and prepare presentations for seasonal sales meetings, as well as spearheading follow-up on action itemsWork with teams to ensure sales assets and materials are available for reps for sales callsManaging website and digital marketing staff to support D2C sales and growthWorking closely with consumer insights, sales directors, and publishing to highlight backlist opportunities and strategizing on how to best drive account marketing and consumer awareness

The Essentials:

Minimum of 7 years sales, marketing, and/or publishing management experience with a knowledge of account basePeople management experienceExceptional attention to detail, the ability to prioritize, and strong follow-up skillsExcellent organizational skills and ability to multitaskStrong communication skills, both verbal & writtenProven ability to create strong, integrated campaigns including paid media and social media strategiesAbility to thrive in a dynamic environment and effectively problem solveCollaborative-minded with the inclination to build strong relationships across departmentsSolutions-focused when met with challenges and can comfortably adapt to changesAvid reader and pop culture minded individual who keeps up with trends and has an abiding interest in book & reading lifestyleConsumer products/goods or apparel experience a plusThe position Marketing Director is a hybrid position with some in-office responsibilities, which will include attending in-person Sales Conferences, account meetings and possibly conventions from time to timeProficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

The salary range for this position, which will be based on experience, is $80,000 to $110,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results
