Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Division of Information Technology (DIT) seeks a graphic design assistant to design and create compelling stories, via various media platforms, around the impact of information technology tools and services for students, faculty, and staff at UMD.

The position will broadly support the Academic Technology Experience (ATEX) team, which employs a quantitative, program evaluation-based approach to provide evidence-based insights, guidance, and recommendations concerning the use and efficacy of DIT systems and services. The position will assist in the creation of compelling data-based communication materials such as DIT-Analytics web pages, presentations, infographics, and videos through design softwares such as Photoshop, After Effects, Canva, or others.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:Must be currently an enrolled/attending student at the University of Maryland, College Park.

Experience:Some experience with graphic design (coursework or work experience) with tools such as the Adobe Creative Cloud suite (e.g., Photoshop) for multimedia projects (e.g., web design, video, infographic design).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Ability to independently complete and take initiative to enhance assigned tasks.Strong communication skills.Preferences:

Preferences:

Have a background (coursework or experience) in web development, user experience design, data journalism, media communications, marketing, science communication, graphic design, creative writing, or a related field.Experience with web development, either through tools such as Figma or with HTML or CSS in Drupal.Video editing skills.Additional Certifications:

Starting at $15/hour. DIT student positions offer promotional paths with increases.10-15 hours per week in-person at Edward St. John Learning and Teaching Center

Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Must have the ability to walk short distances, and/or drive a vehicle to deliver and pick up materials.
