Position Summary:Under the supervision of the Superintendent, the Communications Manager will be accountable for coordinating and implementing internal and external strategic communications and marketing efforts on behalf of the district. This position will work in concert with the district's communications agency partners to implement daily, short-term, and long-term communications and marketing efforts for both internal and external audiences.

Major Responsibilities:

General Communications and MarketingEnsure the district communicates clearly and regularly to staff, parents and the community, and that messages highlight the district's mission, the transformation, and the BCPS brand.Curate, draft and edit content for internal weekly staff emails.Develop tools to aid the district leadership's communications to staff, such as talking points and presentation decks.Oversee graphic design of communications tools for external and internal audiences.Manage advertising planning and execution.Oversee print and social media ad campaigns.District reputation and issue management; anticipate and advise BCPS on concerns from internal and external stakeholders.Liaise and develop relationships with a variety of stakeholders within the district, philanthropy, strategic partners (such as CBOs, faith groups, library, etc.) and community members.Media Management

Manage media relations, including building relationships with reporters, conducting proactive media outreach, responding to media inquiries, and developing press materials such as statements, pitch documents, and press releases.Serve as media liaison for the Superintendent and other key BCPS leaders as assigned.Aid and support media readiness among district spokespeople through coaching, media preparation, and talking points development.Provide counsel and facilitate crisis communications as needed.Content Development

Curate stories and draft articles for monthly district external newsletter.Draft and manage graphic design for collateral pieces as needed to promote specific programs, including hand-outs, flyers and brochures.Source and approve images for communications including newsletter, website, promotional pieces, etc.Manage digital media including oversight of a content calendar, content development, posting and management of social media channels (Facebook and LinkedIn).Oversee production of video and photographic assets.Work in partnership with website technical manager to ensure frequent and timely updates to district website content.Develop content for communications and marketing to external and internal audiences.

Professional Experience and Attributes:

Excellent written and verbal communications skillsFluency in social media platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite required.Graphic design experience desirable.Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (specifically InDesign) desired.Outstanding time management skills with excellent attention to detailStrong ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneouslyAbility to work independently and to flourish in a collaborative work environment with a variety of team members and stakeholdersBackground in an educational settingExcellent interpersonal skillsExperience working with diverse populations

Qualifications

Three to five years of work experience in the field of communications or marketing.Bachelor's degree in Communications or Journalism preferred.

Salary:

$89,351 - $96,716 (Commensurate with qualifications and experience)

Contract:

261 Work Days (12 Month Calendar)
