Portland, ORThe RoleThe Material Designer ll will use their creative skill set and expertise to help shape the future of Material Design for Hoka Footwear. You will play a critical role of leading, generating, and executing new seasonal footwear material designs that exceed and excite our consumer’s expectations. This individual will help translate consumer insights and inform trend relevant, sustainable, and performance-oriented solutions that will help drive key material initiatives. The ideal candidate will be able to confidently present material design strategy, partner extensively with a cross-functional product teams throughout the creative and product creation process and help support the building of process / tools.We celebrate diversity--of your background, your experiences and your unique identity. Your ImpactThe primary functions of this role, include but are not limited to:1. You will manage and work on a large range of product type with multiple seasonal projects2. Contribute to material design strategy and application of materials into the footwear silos3. Provide material aesthetic direction for footwear throughout product creation cycle including but not limited to: prototyping, product briefing, design reviews, and key development sample gates.4. Research and identify trend, industry, and athlete insights5. Partner with material development to advance key seasonal material stories through research, concepting, development, and available vendor material technologies6. Supports ideation of concepts through to finalized tech pack creation to help elevate new ideas, processes, and materials7. Participates in communication and presentation of design concepts to internal audiences, factories, and supplier partners8. Bachelor’s degree in Design. Preferably, but not limited to : Material Design, Textile Design, Product Design, Apparel Design, or related field4+ years relevant design work experiencePassionate pursuit for discovering new solutions for lower impact and sustainable materialsExperience in creative inspiration/concept presentationsAbility to creative innovative concepts and design tech packs that explore new material ideas (Portfolio of sample work is required with application)Knowledge of footwear materials such as : knits, wovens, non-wovens, leather, synthetics, and manufacturing post-processingExperience with 3D software, like Substance, and other AI generative toolsIntermediate to advance working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite. Has the ability to edit or create design files from Illustrator, InDesign, and PhotoshopAttention to detail, highly organized, active follow through, and self-motivatedExcellent team player with strong interpersonal skills both verbal and writtenAbility to interact effectively and professionally with all levels of the organizationKey awareness of insights and trends for footwear industry or comparable industriesAbility to travel both domestic and internationalWhat We'll Give YouCompetitive Pay and Bonuses -
