The Role

Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Utilizes computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as, CAD, CAM, NX, or CATIA. Gathers information, makes studies, computes calculations, and prepares original rough layouts, sketches to present design proposal. Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning group such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications. Exclude classifications in which incumbents predominantly perform drafting assignments.

This position is in the Ship Survivability Department. The successful applicant will join our Vulnerability & Recoverability group and support the construction, maintenance, overhaul, and modernization of CVN 68 and CVN 78 Class aircraft carriers as well as research and development, specialized technical assignments, and cost reduction initiatives for aircraft carriers and submarines. The successful applicant should have technical knowledge in naval ship survivability and aircraft carrier protection systems. This position will involve resolving complex issues that require ingenuity and creativity.

Typical responsibilities include:

Performing quality assurance reviews of products, such as drawings and models.

Developing drawings and models for survivability systems.

Supporting special projects and assignments on SLAN/NNPP Net.

Providing waterfront and vendor support.

Performing ship checks to validate designs.

Supporting the review and evaluation of change proposals for ship and system impacts.

Supporting a culture of teamwork, enthusiasm, and proactive behavior.

Must Have

Associate's Degree and 6 years of relevant experience

One of the following may be used as equivalent to Associate's Degree to meet minimum qualifications:

NNS Apprentice School graduate.

Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate.

High School/GED and 2 years of related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience.

High School/GED and 4 years of non-related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience.

Nice to Have

Excellent communication, both written and verbal.

Critical thinking and problem solving skills.

Experience with managing SharePoint sites.

Proficiency with MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.

Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team.

Comfortable working in a 3D modeling environment.

Familiar with CVN 78 Class Ship Specifications.

Ability to read and interpret ship system drawings and structural drawings.

Experience with AutoCAD.

Experience with Teamcenter/NX.

Experience with SLAN/NNPP Net.

Creativity in seeking design resolutions.
