The UI/UX Design Team Lead contributes to ONC's mission of providing nonpartisan news, opinions, and policy solutions by overseeing a team of 3 to 5 User Interface and User Experience Design (UI/UX Design) interns. The UI/UX Design Team Lead will delegate tasks to interns within the department, assigning responsibilities based on their strengths and expertise. They will provide guidance and support to interns, ensuring they have the necessary resources and assistance to excel in their roles. The UI/UX Design Team Lead will actively coach interns, fostering their professional development and helping them navigate their responsibilities within the department. This Lead is responsible for overseeing the designs from ideation to completion for our website and mobile app. The UI/UX Design Team Lead will guide the translations of business requirements into functional design prototypes. Furthermore, they are responsible for assigning, managing, editing, and approving all new designs and updates created by this team, ensuring they are finished on time and are up to ONC standards.

This position is remote, with work primarily conducted over Zoom and Slack, so applicants must be comfortable coordinating in a remote environment and are expected to maintain a high level of communication. The duration of this internship can be as short as a semester or as long as a year or more and can be extended. Preferably, this leader will commit to 6 months.

Responsibilities:Oversee the UI/UX Design Team at ONC.Delegate tasks to interns based on their strengths and expertise.Provide guidance and support to interns.Lead a design process based in User Research, User Personas, and User Flows.Oversee the design process from ideation to completion for the website and mobile app.Guide the translation of business requirements into functional design prototypes using FigmaAssign, manage, edit, and approve all new designs and updates created by the team.Ensure designs are finished on time and meet ONC standards.Constantly strive to enhance the ONC brand through innovative design approaches.Qualifications

The UI/UX Design Team Lead should have the following skills, education, and experience:

Working towards a degree in User Experience (UX) Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Interaction Design, Web Design or Interactive Media, Graphic Design, and/or related fieldsExperience with research, wireframing, building prototypes, and rapid iterationStrong online portfolio that demonstrate UI/UX Design abilitiesStrong foundational understanding of visual design principles, including layout, typography, visual hierarchy, and color theoryExperience working in FigmaReceptiveness to criticism and the ability to provide meaningful feedbackResponsive, consistent, and effective communicator, even during conflictA self-starter who is willing to take initiative and complete tasksAbility to work remotely and on their own schedule in order to make deadlinesGoogle Workspace experience preferredAbility to attend the Organization-Wide meetings every other weekAbility to lead weekly UI/UX Design meetingsMust be authorized to intern in the U.S.
