If your skills, experience, and qualifications match those in this job overview, do not delay your application.Director, Audience Strategy | 7-10+ years experience | Hybrid - based in Los AngelesThe Director, Audience Strategy at EssenceMediacom will help lead the audience insights & strategy practice for Universal Pictures theatrical clients and supports the vision of the audience strategy product for the agency. This practice sits at the nexus between data and strategy, responsible for proving the effectiveness in delivering culture-forward work that requires a blend of data-driven insights, audience strategy, comms planning, big ideas, consumer understanding, and measurement - and is a strategy leader capable of bringing those things together.The Director, Audience Strategy will report to the Vice President, Audience Strategy, and the core function is to help set the strategic audience vision for every film release as well as support the development of a holistic theatrical audience approach that will provide Audience Strategy guidelines and frameworks for every title as well as major strategic planning cycles or projects.They work closely with Planning, Activation, and Data Strategy teams to integrate that approach into each campaign as well as Universal’s larger business goals as a leader in the industry. They write simply and persuasively and consistently sell strategies and ideas. Their understanding of consumer behavior, trends and channels helps media planning teams focus on the right connections between movie-going audiences and each film release.The Director is responsible to build and maintain solid relationships with clients across all levels and functions and can manage, lead, and develop team member’s strategic abilities.Core Competencies:

Prior experience managing complex qual and quant studies/research with a keen sense of how to use primary, secondary, and big data analytics to influence business decisions.Insights “guru”: You possess a deep understanding of data-driven original insights, cultural and competitive insights, and the ability to synthesize these into actionable audience insights.Strong passion for entertainment, particularly film, and an interest in what moves culture to conceive fresh audience strategies.Clear and persuasive presentation skills.Strong leadership skills and previous experience as a manager leading a team.Ability to lead clients and build highly valued client relationships.Primary Responsibilities:

Support audience-led planning and strategy development across Universal Pictures Domestic business. Primary functions are:Fueling upstream strategic audience and communication approaches through data-driven insights, fresh holistic strategies, and connecting the right data to reach our core, persuadable, and growth audiences in the marketplace.Lead and guide team in research and data analysis to identify business, consumer, and moviegoer insights to inform strategic approach to deliver against business objectives, using syndicated and proprietary data resources (both quant and qual) and 1PD where applicable.Support the VP, Audience Strategy in establishing a holistic audience approach - from genre-based segmentation to audience-driven playbooks to ultimately develop actionable and addressable audience insights and targeting strategies that drive brand and business results.Work closely with the VP of Audience Strategy and Director of Multicultural Strategy to bring inclusive and diverse moviegoer audiences to life in human, nuanced ways using multiple data sources and research findings.Champion and elevate audience work across every internal and client-facing touch point.Manage the daily Audience Strategy team workstreams with direct reports:Provide clear vision, direction, management and support to individuals within the team to ensure their work aligns with both team and business missions and goals.Manage and guide day-to-day deliverables, ensuring best-in-class output is brought to life through all deliverables and workstreams.Ability to coach & manage direct reports and growth/development of strategists.Foster a team environment that champions respect and partnership in service of people, culture, and great work.Support teams’ Strategic Authorship, Development and Idea Generation:

Work with the VP of Audience Strategy and the Director of Multicultural Strategy to ensure:Guide team to originate central comms strategies that are rooted in insights, have a connection idea at their heart and breakthrough ideas as a result.Assist VP in leading strategy, innovation, and idea workshops to help cross-discipline teams (internal and external) develop innovative and value-based idea-led communications.Ensure audience strategy manifests in plans and presentations (“audience strategy cop”).Thought Leadership:

Proactively and continually bring ‘bigger picture’ ideas and thought leadership across areas of consumer behavior, consumer trends, creative media engagements, emerging media and tech to the VP, Audience Strategy to develop thought leadership pieces to inform theatrical clients. (Examples: topics such as AI, brands in culture, first to markets for entertainment marketing advertisers and media innovation.)Understand clients’ businesses, appropriately augment/challenge their perspective and serve as their trusted ally in advancing business goals and audience insights & strategy.Collaborate with various internal stakeholders across departments, like research, planning, activation, data strategy, analytics, COE, to ensure an audience-first approach is applied across all touchpoints of our workstreams to prove impact of our work.The base salary for this position at the time of this posting may range from $100,000 to $230,000. Individual compensation varies based on job-related factors, including business needs, experience, level of responsibility and qualifications.
