Position Overview

The Grant Writer will work closely with the Development Officer as a supporter of St. Joseph the Worker's mission, vision, and growth. The Grant Writer will research, write, format, and submit compelling, high-quality grant proposals to funding agencies (federal, state, and private foundations) while applying knowledge of fundraising methods and plans to reach goals. This role is responsible for proactively researching and analyzing grant opportunities and making recommendations on their feasibility. Position will collaborate with leaders and team members to develop relationships with key stakeholders and develop supporting documents.

Functions of PositionThis position is responsible for all phases of grants development, evaluation, and compliance, including research, pre-award grant writing, the coordination of grant applications, and post award support for grant-funded projects.

The Grant Writer will actively research and pursue prospective public and private funding sources, while developing relationships with potential funders. Work duties may include, but are not limited to:

Research, identify, and match grant opportunities to meet specific organizational objectives.

Interpret and follow grant application guidelines and requirements meticulously.

Collaborates with various staff members (Development, Programs, Finance) to align grant proposals with organizational goals and objectives.

Draft compelling and persuasive grant proposals, detailing the needs, objectives, budget, and anticipated outcomes.

Submit timely and complete grant applications, ensuring adherence to specified guidelines.

Maintain an organized database of all grant submissions, including dates, outcomes, and feedback.

Manage the reporting process for all awarded grants, ensuring compliance with grant terms and conditions.

Build and nurture relationships with foundations and corporate donors.

Conduct post-submission follow-ups with grantors as necessary.

Assists development department with planning and executing annual fundraising events.

Work independently, be computer literate, and possess the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card prior to hire.

Reporting

Reports directly to the Development Officer.Evaluation

The annual review with the Development Officer will cover the employee's performance over the past year. Discussion topics will include, but are not limited to, the number of grants written, the number and amount of grants secured for the organization, feedback from vendors and/or partners, and input from staff members who have worked with the employee. Additionally, the review will include evidence of how the employee demonstrates SJW's core values.
