Department Information

The Herman B Wells Center for Pediatric Research conducts basic science and translational research within the Department of Pediatrics at Indiana University School of Medicine. The Wells Center houses more than 200 faculty investigators, staff, and trainees seeking answers to the most pressing questions related to childhood illness.

With the collaboration between scientists and physicians, the center aims to increase knowledge of causes and mechanisms of serious pediatric diseases. Our goal is to develop innovative approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of sick children in Indiana and beyond.

Job Summary

The Herman B Wells Center for Pediatric Research, part of the Department of Pediatrics, is seeking a personable and dynamic storyteller to assist with communications efforts. This internship is a unique opportunity to get to know faculty, staff, and students within the department and share their stories with the academic and general community. Candidates should enjoy meeting new people and integrating themselves into a busy and diverse community. Stories will be shared through the Pediatrics blog, social media accounts, and internally, and will ideally use mediums such as long and short-form text, photo and even video. The Communications Intern will work closely with the Pediatrics Communications Generalist to develop professional and communications skills, learn and engage with department communications strategies, and partake in professional development.

Department-Specific ResponsibilitiesCreates novel content promoting the research and personnel of the Wells Center in the form of blogs.Manages starting and maintaining 1 social media account for the Department including daily monitoring, posting, scheduling, and providing reports.Updates event calendars and other marketing materials.Assists with e-communications and newsletters.Collaborates with Communications colleagues on new ideas, directions, tools, and professional development for communications.

Working Conditions / Demands

The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus, including different areas within the Wells Center. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Additional Information

$18.50 per hour.
