Pay Range

$129,030 - $160,188 Annually

Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. Many factors are taken into consideration when setting starting pay including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity.

Job Description

We have an opening for a

Graphic Designer

in support of Z Program's Science & Technology Assessments and Counterproliferation Analysis & Planning System. You will be responsible for contributing to and overseeing internal and external design strategies, coordinating and planning of design projects, and implementation of the latest design methods, technologies, and tools. You will coordinate the work of other designers and work collaboratively with senior management, customers, and multidisciplinary team members to identify objectives and strategies in order to deliver high-quality designs, visual aids, environmental signage, and displays. This position is in the Technical Information Department and will be matrixed to the Z Program within the Global Security Directorate.

You willLead, plan, and develop complex designs, multimedia, and digital communication projects. Partner with senior leaders to establish standards for highly complex projects, and collaborate with contributors across the program and external partnerships.Provide time and budget estimates and coordinate the work of others to meet customer expectations, budgets, and deadlines.Respond, consult, and partner with customers to define, develop, and establish objectives to meet the design specification requirements for projects.Oversee design concepts, graphics, multimedia, and content strategy to represent the science and technology within the program and provide analysis of the successful completion of those products based on quality, timeline, and budget.Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to maintain consistent high-quality designs, applying unique, and creative approaches that meet customer and audience needs. Serve as subject matter expert in programmatic area and share expertise with similar disciplines across the laboratory.Apply specialized knowledge to web interface design, HTML coding, and technical illustration to perform advanced technical designs, beta test web applications and implement design requirements with minimal supervision.Provide in-depth consultation and feedback related to development of highly sensitive and complex multifaceted projects that include visual components.Establish standards for quality of work and provide creative guidance on techniques, processes, and cost-effective alternatives to producing a variety of products. Serve as final quality check for the most complex, technical and/or highly visible design and digital communications products.Provide specialized computer application support including database support, electronic information capture/content management, operational standards, procedures, and web designPerform other duties as assigned.Qualifications

This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at the time of hire.Bachelor's degree in relevant field or equivalent combination of education and related experience as a graphics or web designer, technical illustrator, or multimedia designer.Significant knowledge in graphics and/or web production or multimedia design as it pertains to large-scale communications.Broad understanding of graphic design methods and principles. In-depth understanding of emerging design techniques, technologies, and tools.Expert knowledge of and experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (specifically InDesign, XD, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat), content management systems such as Django, PostgreSQL, WordPress, Drupal, and Liferay; and the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint.Experience leading and effectively managing multidisciplinary projects and/or teams, while establishing commitments of scope, schedule, and cost, setting expectations, and establishing standards of quality and customer service.Experience working both independently and within diverse teams that are comprised of other creative disciplines, e.g. photographers, illustrators, editors/writers, web developers, and 3D modelers, animators, and/or scientific and technical staff or experts.Outstanding interpersonal skills and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Ability to lead conceptualization of effective high-quality design projects including planning, direction, and coordination of tasks and follow-through of objectives. Experience establishing and maintaining design integrity throughout all media, publications, and campaigns.Qualifications We Desire

Experience in photography and/or video editing.Experience with pre-press and publication processes.Experience working with the Intelligence Community, with knowledge of analytic tradecraft processes and best practicesKnowledge of Atlassian Suite, particularly Drupal, or similar tool; visualization tools such as Sketchup, Visio, and Affinity; and database tools such as Django and PostgreSQL.Additional Information

Security Clearance

This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at time of hire. Also, you must have the ability to obtain and maintain Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) access. Please note that your current active Q or Top Secret clearance with DOE or another agency does not guarantee DOE SCI access approval; if you are denied access, you may be subject to reinvestigation of your existing Q or Top Secret Clearance.

Pre-Employment Drug Test

Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities require separate approval.
