A woman-owned small business in Fairfax, VA, is seeking an experienced multilingual desktop publisher (DTP) and multimedia specialist who is adept in using Adobe InDesign and other graphics/multimedia software. The ideal candidate has also experience in the use of CAT tools, including SDL Trados Studio and related text preparation of complex documents

US Citizen who holds an active Public Trust or Secret security clearance

Job duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Job Description:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Estimate or quote projects based on analysis of repetitions an/or exact matches in Trados and/or quality and length of multimedia files for side-by-side transcription/translationPrepare files for translators, as needed, including preparing Word documents from a variety of source material with varying complexity that will be processed via CAT tool and/or translated into right-to-left languages, such as Arabic, or any other character-based languageInsert any pictures and text into tables to ensure that layout is maintained when documents are exported from Trados for final review before delivery to the customerFormat translated files using InDesign or other graphics software to ensure that they mirror the layout of source files, to include placement of graphics, captions, page numbers, etc. when text has expanded or contracted during the translation processRecreate and/or edit graphics, charts and tables, as requiredTroubleshoot the layout in translated filesMake and report any notes of errors, issues, or typos within the source file when performing layout in the target languagePerform thorough quality checks after DTP using available checklists in compliance with necessary internal or client requirementsLeverage automated quality control tools and suggest further improvements as necessaryWork closely with the Program Manager and linguist teams to ensure final translated products are exact replicas of source documentsPerform extensive quality checks of published translations prior to delivery to the clientGeneral Qualifications:

At least 3 years' experience working as a DTP Specialist in the translation/localization industryMust be a US Citizen with Public Trust or higher security clearance or eligible to attain a Public Trust clearanceBachelor's degree (or 4-plus years' equivalent work experience) in Graphic Design and/or Linguistics or another relevant fieldExcellent proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite and DTP tools, such as Adobe InDesign, Adobe FrameMaker, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, etc.Fluency in English (required) and Spanish and/or another foreign language(s) highly desiredMust have a keen awareness of other culturesMust be detail-oriented with the ability to work well within a team environmentExcellent written and oral communication skillsAvailable to work 20-30 hours a week with a flexible schedule (TBD)
