As the Associate Director of Education Content Writing, the Associate Director will contribute to the implementation of the American Kidney Fund (AKF) mission to educate and empower individuals affected by kidney disease. Our kidney disease education programs and resources seek to empower and support those affected by kidney disease by addressing the learning needs and interests of our public, patient, and caregiver audiences. This position involves overseeing the creation and management of compelling and informative content on the AKF website. In this role the Associate Director will contribute to the development of engaging and accessible digital content that resonates with diverse audiences, recognizing the disproportionate impact on communities of color, and the social determinants of health as it relates to chronic kidney disease.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Collaborate with the Director of Public Education and the Office of Communications and Marketing to develop and execute a comprehensive content strategy for the AKF website, aligned with organizational goals in kidney disease education.Generate high-quality, accurate, and engaging content that addresses the informational needs of patient and caregiver audiences.Continuously conduct research on relevant topics to determine website content that requires updating and new content that should be created.Work with the public education team to conduct ongoing needs assessments, industry analysis, formative research, user testing, periodic focus groups, and surveys of our public, patient, and caregiver audiences to inform approach for reaching and educating our audience.Apply best practices in health communication to ensure website content is written in plain language, is culturally appropriate, and meets health literacy standards.Support cultural adaptation and translation of content considering the language, culture, and context of our audiences.Translate complex medical information into accessible and understandable content for the layperson.Collaborate with the Public Education Team, Offices of Strategic Partnerships, and Communications and Marketing to align website content with broader organizational initiatives and campaigns.Coordinate with Office of Communication and Marketing to ensure timely and accurate content publication and to strategically plan content releases, campaigns, and updates on the AKF website.Collaborate with the Communications and Marketing website development team to optimize website content for SEO, ensuring visibility and reach to a wider audience.Conduct regular reviews of existing content to ensure accuracy, relevance, and compliance with industry guidelines and ensure consistency of messaging across all digital platforms.Attend industry conferences, seminars, and workshops to keep abreast of research and trends around kidney disease and represent AKF at professional conferences via exhibit staffing and research poster presentation.Travel up to 10%.Perform additional related duties, as assigned.Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Health Education, Community Health, Public Health, Behavioral Sciences, Communications, Journalism, English, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.Proven experience in content creation, with a focus on health education or medical communication.Minimum of 4-5 years of related work experience.1-2 years of supervisory experience.Superior writing, editing, and proofreading skills.Excellent project management and organizational skills.Culturally competent with the ability to tailor content for diverse audiences.Experience applying principles of health literacy, plain language standards, best practices of health communication, both verbal and written required.Experience with and understanding of needs of those with chronic disease or renal health a plus.Demonstrated ability to be highly flexible, and work independently and/or in a team environment.Certification in CPH, CHES or MCHES a plus.Bilingual English/Spanish, both verbal and written a plus.Some weekends and evenings may be required.

AKF offers a hybrid work schedule with employees working in the office 1-4 days per month and telework the rest of the time.
