The part-time Reference Librarian provides professional-level, front line library service to the NWACC community that encourages effective use of resources, utilization of technology and development of life-long learning skills. While focused on customer service, the part-time Reference Librarian also works on various library projects.

This is an on-site part time, evenings/weekend position.

Job DescriptionPrimarily works evenings and weekends, staffing the library reference desk and serving as the library's opening/closing supervisor.

Provides reference assistance, including phone, chat, text, and e-mail inquiries, assisting patrons with copiers, printers, computers and other library equipment.

Effectively uses and teaches the functions of the library's online system and other databases.

Practices good customer service and communication skills, conveying a warm, yet professional attitude.

Selects appropriate resources for the patrons' questions, objectives and level of expertise.

Knows NWACC and library policies and procedures, accurately interprets them and clearly communicates them to patrons and staff as necessary.

Works on assigned projects.

Completes other duties as assigned.

Salary $19.00 hourly

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

Knowledge of computers and software application programs. Knowledge of standard library practices. Knowledge of filing and recordkeeping procedures and basic math. Knowledge of customer service principles. Ability to perform data entry, typing, and word processing. Ability to research records to verify and update materials. Ability to operate general office equipment.

Physical Demands

Occasional lifting of heavy books and equipment is required. Ability to stand and walk for long periods, to move book carts, and lift up to 20 pounds. Ability to stoop, bend and reach.

Minimum Education and ExperienceThe formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus, three years of experience in library or customer services or a related field. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management.

Preferred QualificationsThe formal education of a bachelor's degree and/or Master's-level coursework in library sciences or related field.
