Position description

The Department of Cognitive Sciences has the need for Unit 18 lecturers to teach undergraduate courses in the various areas of cognitive science. Most appointments are for a single course, but in some cases, candidates could be asked to teach more than one course. Areas of need include:

psych research methods/lab: topics covered include research methods - observational, survey, correlational, quasi-experimental, and experimental - and tools - for searching the literature, reading and understanding of primary research publications, and drawing inferences from data.

experimental psychology/lab: topics covered include the experimental method, A/B testing, a practical introduction to experimental design with a focus on understanding confounding and other threats to validity, and use of R or JASP for basic statistical analysis.

probability and inference: topics covered include the fundamentals of statistical models emphasizing linear model, again with a focus on conceptual understanding and model specification.

Other areas of interest include special topics in general cognitive science, cognitive neuroscience, and other research laboratory courses

A compelling teaching portfolio, as well as a clear vision for teaching to a diverse audience at the university level is highly desired. Salary is commensurate with teaching experience. This recruitment is for potential openings in the future (i.e., an open pool) and does not guarantee availability.

Basic qualifications

Ph.D. in Cognitive Sciences, Psychology, or a related field

Relevant and effective teaching experience at the college level.
