The Cancer Institute at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a (Hybrid) Scientific Grant Writer.

About the Opportunity

As a (Hybrid) Scientific Grant Writer, you will provide expert writing and support to faculty, fellows, and residents drafting NIH and other extramural, peer-reviewed grant applications.

Wellness programs

What you'll do:

Assist faculty, fellows and residents to design research proposals, submit grant proposals and papers for publication in the peer-reviewed medical literature.

Review, edit (grammar, punctuation, clarity) and format documents.

Format manuscripts for submission by the corresponding author to appropriate journals for publication.

Prepare print products by proofreading, copyediting and revising.

Secure biostatistical and epidemiological assistance with manuscripts.

Edit, create and design tables, figures and artwork for layout and final production of printed material.

Develop and maintain templates with example text for non-technical grant components.

Work with investigators to draft and solicit letters of support.

Assist faculty in preparing all necessary application forms for funding by external agencies and internal funders with correct institutional information, including consolidation of all required components of the proposal, review of the written text and verifying the correct formats.

Ensure that deliverables conform with all WVU, state, and regulatory policies and guidelines.

Keep abreast of sponsor requirements and develops guidelines as appropriate.

Understand review criteria and ensures compliance.

Communicate with funding agency staff as necessary.

Identify newly opened cancer-specific funding initiatives.

Attend regular meetings with departmental researchers to provide status updates on protocols, funding proposals, publications, and manuscripts under development.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in English, Communication, Journalism or related degree.

A minimum of three (3) years of experience writing and editing experience in an academic setting.

Demonstrated writing and editing skills in biological or medical research.

Thorough knowledge of correct English, grammar, spelling, punctuation and sentence structure.

Excellent written and oral communication skills to effectively interact with a variety of internal and external constituents.

Demonstrated ability to coordinate and prioritize a variety of tasks, and to complete same within established timelines.

Demonstrated ability to work independently.

Knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced degree in Biomedical Science or Health profession.
