About the Job

Position RationaleApplying the lens of diversity, equity, and inclusion to all communications, the Communications Coordinator is responsible for designing, creating, and implementing a comprehensive, dynamic, and agile communications plan, using various tools and ensuring consistent and effective messaging and branding for the Department of Urology.The Communications Coordinator collaborates with the Administrative Director to determine stories, photos, content, and focus for the departments' communications efforts. The position is responsible for generating original content for internal and external communications. The Communications Coordinator works with others in the department to plan events and define goals and specific audiences. This includes working closely with the Medical School's communications team and development staff on special events, marketing, or targeted communications to alums.

Duties also include writing and editing content for all platforms such as social media, website, multimedia, photo and video, and department-wide events; translating information into clear, concise, and understandable language; developing branded materials, including brochures, newsletters, posters, and research summaries; creating and managing the production and distribution of information.The Communications Coordinator ensures that all communication tools are designed to engage their targeted stakeholders, enhance and promote the department's reputation, and provide accurate and interesting information about the department and how its residents, fellows, faculty, and staff members are engaged in education, research, and outreach.Content Creation 30%Pitch, develop, write, and promote stories for and in collaboration with the Medical School's communications team.Develop, write, and edit stories important to stakeholders for the biannual newsletters.Develop, write, and edit stories to promote important aspects of the department's missions.Provide graphic design and copy-editing expertise in all aspects of communication and promotional items.Communications/Marketing 30%Maintain and develop the department's website.Manage internal and external marketing and communication across email, print, and digital platforms.Develop content for social media platforms and monitor engagement.Identify and organize conference and event presence to support marketing initiatives.Utilize Salesforce Marketing Cloud to craft and disseminate all internal and external communication, including newsletters, updates, and messaging from leadership.Ensure branding and messaging adhere to applicable brand and style guides.Create and maintain marketing collateral using Adobe Creative Suite, including brochures, flyers, and booklets.Content Management 20%Maintain departmental listservs.Provide communications/marketing updates to department leadership.Manage photographs, plaques, digital media, and awards as needed.Other Special Projects as assigned 20%

Qualifications

.Required QualificationsBA/BS plus at least two years of experience or a combination of related education and work experience to equal at least six years.Previous experience with web content management systems, such as Drupal.Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an emphasis on detail and accuracy.Familiar with AP and Chicago style guides.Comfortable using Adobe Creative Suite and Salesforce Marketing Cloud.Preferred QualificationsPrevious experience in health care or academic environment.Previous experience as a marketing or communications specialist or in a similar role.Previous experience in health care.Previous experience with media relations.Previous experience working with multiple organizations and groups.
