Position Description

The Huckabee College of Architecture (HCOA) at Texas Tech University (TTU) invites candidates to apply formultiple full-time, 9-month tenure-track positions in Architectural Design at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin September 1, 2025, or earlier.

About the College

The HCOA (architecture/) currently enrolls close to 900 architecture students and has a reputation for producing technically trained, high performing architects, who understand the culture of design. In 2019, the HCOA was #10 on Design Intelligence's Most Hired From list. Our mission is to advance the knowledge, discipline, and practice of architecture through innovation, creative teaching, research, regional and global engagement, and scholarship. In support for this, the Lubbock campus offers four degrees: B.S. in Architecture, M. Arch, M.S. and Ph.D. The M.S. program offers three concentrations: Design Computation & Fabrication, Design & Health, and Urban & Community Design, along with a developing area focused on Ecological Architecture & Design. Additionally, the HCOA has a campus in El Paso, Texas, making the HCOA the only college of architecture with a permanent program on the US/Mexico border. The El Paso campus offers a B.S. in Architecture, border issues forming a fundamental aspect of that program, and M.S. program in Historic Preservation. The HCOA is also globally engaged with a semester abroad program in Seville, Spain as well as study abroad opportunities and exchange programs located in various international cities.

Major/Essential Functions

The College seeks enthusiastic and innovative colleagues to join our growing design studio faculty on the High Plains of West Texas. Ideal candidates will have experience teaching architecture design studios and an ability to demonstrate clear pedagogical methods.They should also be able to craft and execute coordinated studios and seminars, guiding students to acquire competitive technical and critical skills at various stages of our design curriculum.

Full-time faculty at TTU have an expected assignment of 40% teaching, 40% research, and 20% service. Candidates will be expected to teach architecture design studios at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Additionally, the position generally requires the candidate to develop and teach a lecture and/or seminar course in design communication, architectural design process, site design, and/or technical assembly of buildings, depending on individual expertise, interests, and qualifications. They may also advise MS and Ph.D. students and serve as a chair or member of their committees.Being a tenure track position at a Tier One institution, recognized for its high research activity and academic excellence, there are clear expectations for candidates to advance disciplinary knowledge. This involves maintaining a high level of research and creative activity, which may include publications, presentations, and exhibitions in national and international peer-reviewed venues, seeking external funding, and supporting students.

Service is key to the success of the college, and activities include participation in college committees, university service, professional service, and community service and engagement.In line with TTU's strategic priorities to engage and empower a diverse student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience working with diverse student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels withinthe areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and/or service.
