Booklist

is widely viewed as offering the most reliable reviews to help libraries decide what to buy and to help library patrons and students decide what to read, view, or listen to through a growing range of media. It comprises two print magazines, an extensive website and database, e-newsletters, webinars, podcasts, and other resources that support librarians in collection development and readers' advisory.

Booklist

is seeking a full-time Editorial Assistant to join its Adult/Audio team.

Responsibilities include:

Accurately and quickly checking books into the

Booklist

database .

Monitoring and sorting a daily influx of digital book submissions, sending review copies to freelancer reviewers, and generally maintaining the smooth operations and workflow for

Booklist's

Editorial team.

Communicates frequently with freelancers about review deadlines and other topics, as well as with publishers about the status of their titles.

Maintains accurate and up-to-date records of a variety of operations, including publisher and freelancer contact information, starred book reviews, and mailing schedules.

This is a regular full-time position based in our Chicago office.

ALA staff are currently working on a hybrid schedule. Please note that although we have a generous telecommuting policy for our employees, we do not have any truly remote positions in states outside of our workplace sites.

ALA currently requires that employees be fully vaccinated as defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Proof of vaccination will be required on or before start date.

Starting salary

range negotiable from 40k based on relevant experience. ALA has an excellent benefit package that includes flexible work schedules, medical, dental, generous paid vacation and a retirement annuity and a 35-hour work week. You may also qualify for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF).

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree is preferred, ideally in English or the humanities

Minimum 1 to 2 years related experience (may include internships and/or volunteer service)

Exceptional communication skills - verbal and written

Strong attention to details

Adhere to multiple deadlines and can multitask in a fast-paced work environment

Basic knowledge of book publishing and libraries a plus

Familiarity with Google drive, Dropbox, and Excel strongly preferred.

Must be flexible and able to handle competing, sometimes conflicting priorities
