Alice L. Walton School of Medicine (AWSOM) is seeking experienced, motivated, and dedicated leaders and educators to participate in the design and delivery of an innovative four-year medical school curriculum that engages medical students in active and novel learning.Required Documents to Apply:Applicants should submit the following materials:Letter of interest highlighting essential qualifications and interests specific to the positionA detailed curriculum vitaeTeaching philosophy statementDiversity statementJob Description:The Art of Healing Thread Leader will develop and manage all four-year components of this thread including learning objectives, active learning activities, student assessments, and faculty recruitment. This individual will collaborate closely with Course Directors and other Thread Leaders and administrators from the ARCHES curriculum as part of an interdisciplinary team. The ARCHES curriculum is built on evidence-based approaches to teaching and learning. It includes the following six core elements:A rt of HealingR esearch, Entrepreneurship, and InnovationC linical CareH ealth Systems SciencesE mbracing Whole HealthS cience of MedicineAll six threads of the curriculum will be interwoven throughout the four-year curriculum.This position is open at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor level within the non-tenure track, depending on experience and qualifications.We are building a workplace and learning climate in which inclusive excellence and whole health principles are inextricable parts of our culture and practices. While AWSOM does not have a tenure track, we are building a school that will facilitate exceptional professional development opportunities for our faculty and other team members.Major Responsibilities/Essential Functions Specific to the Position:Develop a four-year Art of Healing curricular thread encompassing medical humanities, arts and social sciences. In collaboration with Course Directors and other Thread Leaders, develop course objectives, session learning objectives, small and large group active learning sessions, formative and summative assessments.Work closely with the faculty, Course Directors, and other Thread Leaders to develop a vertically and horizontally integrated curricular thread.Facilitate and deliver thread-related content using active learning methodologies (e.g., flipped classroom).Recruit and identify faculty and staff involved in all aspects of the Art of Healing curricular thread.Collaborate with the Senior Director of Assessment and Evaluation in the development and interpretation of content assessment and evaluation.Collaborate with the Director of Curriculum Management to facilitate curriculum mapping related to the thread.Actively participate in service-related activities, including membership on committees and workgroups within AWSOM and the community.Participate in professional development programs to enhance teaching, educational and other skills needed to execute their responsibilities.Together with the Faculty Affairs Office, facilitate faculty development related to the art of healing.Performs other duties as assigned.Minimum QualificationsDoctoral degree (MD, DO, PhD, MD/PhD, EdD, or equivalent) with specific training/experience in medical humanities or a closely related field.Minimum Work ExperiencesThree or more years of experience with curriculum development in undergraduate medical education and/or medical humanities in higher education.Evidence of teaching excellence in undergraduate medical education and/or postgraduate education.Experience in curricular development and student evaluation in higher education.Preferred Work Experiences and QualificationsFive or more years of experience in an LCME or COCA accredited undergraduate medical education.Comfort with an array of educational technologies and active learning methodologies.Skills Expected of All AWSOM Team MembersExemplary written, verbal, and other communication skills.Adaptability: Flexible to the needs of the position and the school.Collaborative Skills: Build and maintain relationships internal and external to the organization.Highly self-directed, reliable, and accountable.Strong commitment to self-care.Committed to Diversity and Inclusion: Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders (e.g., co-workers, students, community members).Ability to effectively mentor a diversity of individuals.Commitment to meet and maintain professional and/or faculty development requirements related to this role.About Us!Founded in 2021 by philanthropist Alice Walton, the School of Medicine will offer a four-year, medical degree-granting program that integrates conventional medicine with comprehensive, integrated, and spiraling principles and self-care practices.
